It’S Shutout For Shadow
First-year midfielder Mark Hogenhout scored a hat trick and Zach Kingsley added two goals as the Spokane Shadow defeated the Seattle Sounders Select 5-0 Friday night at Shoreline Community College.
Hogenhout, who plays for the University of Washington, knocked in his first goal 8 minutes into the game. The Seattle athlete last year played on the United Soccer League’s Seattle BigFoot team, which is now the Sounders Select. Kingsley, who also plays for the Huskies, scored his first goal at the 34-minute mark with Zane Higgins assisting.
Three minutes later, Hogenhout scored from 22 yards out for a 3-0 halftime lead.
The win improved the Shadow to 2-0 and earned them the maximum five points in the U.S. Open Cup qualifying tournament. With three qualifying games remaining, the Shadow lead the Premier League Northwest Division with seven points. The Sounders fell to 1-1 and have three Cup points.
The team with the most points among 11 teams will advance to the second round of the national tournament.
The Shadow play the Cascade Surge on Sunday in Salem, Ore.
