Take It Easy On Beav

We’ve been watching “Leave it to Beaver” reruns on TV Land.

And you know what? All jokes aside, it was a pretty good show.

Sure, some aspects were silly. But a lot of Ward’s advice to the boys was sound. And it’s fun to see people wearing something besides T-shirts.

* Even the panhandler laughed: Liberty Lake’s Mary Sherrill, walking downtown with her husband and 5-year-old daughter, said, “Sorry, no,” when a guy asked if they had any spare change. But then little Kendra piped up with, “My daddy does, no wait, he just has cash.”

* Mystery of Our Time: Why do certain parents saddle their 3-year-old boys with ridiculously long hair styles that make the kids look like either runty cavemen or short members of bad ‘70s rock bands?

* Word power: What’s the most popular expression among those who experience water-temperature fluctuations while showering?

a.) “Egad.”

b.) “Yikes.”

c.) “Uff dah.”

d.) other.

* What we have here is a failure to communicate: David Harvego, a member of the Bowdish Junior High band who will be marching in today’s Junior Lilac Parade, was trying to make the event sound enticing to his 6-year-old cousin Martha, who lives on a farm in North Dakota.

Apparently she was either mishearing or failing to comprehend the word “lilac.”

“I can see all the livestock I want by looking out the window,” she said.

* Just wondering: What percentage of people attending the air show could explain how the shape of an airplane’s wings allows for flight?

* Reader’s choice: Call and vote for the item you want to see Tuesday.

1. What if, instead of being a window on a quasi-religion, the new “Star Wars” installment turns out to be just a movie?

2. When play dates turn ugly.

3. The real-estate agent’s nightmare: Angry outdoor yelling down the street.

4. The existential joke: Being a snob in Spokane.

5. Fear of flatulence: The real reason some people are afraid of taking the bus.

6. Fly fishermen should be seen and not heard.

7. Sometimes double-bagging is enough to make one happy.

8. Spokane’s sexiest salesperson.

9. Why those “I’m an artist and I vote” bumper stickers are hilarious.

10. What cats really want.

* Today’s Slice question: Northwest kids who learn what second language will have a real advantage in the business world when they grow up?
