ADAMS COUNTY Othello
Ground has been broken for the new Burger King on First Avenue. It’s slated for a June 25 opening. The project was temporarily on hold as the city looked into ways to realign the streets to accommodate the restaurant. The local Cenex dealer had to give the city right-of-way for use of the street. In exchange, the dirt street was paved at city expense.
FERRY COUNTY Keller
The Colville Confederated Tribes plans to have two meetings in Ferry County this month - May 19 at Inchelium and May 20 at Keller - for tribal members to have input in a development plan for the tribe. The Overall Economic Development Program will serve a free dinner to all who attend and give their opinion.
GRANT COUNTY Mattawa
Dozens of citizens attended a recent community meeting to address housing and social needs before the harvest season begins. In the Esperanza Project, eight converted shipping containers were made into six-bunk houses for migrant workers. The containers have full kitchen and bathroom facilities and will rent for $10 per day per family or $6 per day for single people.
LINCOLN COUNTY Davenport
A recent study of suicide in the county shows men are much more likely than women to take their lives here. In 11 years, only one woman has committed suicide in Lincoln County, with 22 men ending their lives. Fifty percent of victims were married; five percent were divorced.
PEND OREILLE COUNTY Newport
State funds will be used to fight Eurasian milfoil throughout the county. State Rep. Bob Sump, R-Republic, says the Aquatic Weed Management fund has set aside $11,725 to battle this noxious water pest in Diamond Lake.
SPOKANE COUNTY Millwood
Today is children’s parade day in Millwood. Kindergartners and first-graders from the West Valley School District will turn into bugs and butterflies this morning - and then again this afternoon - for an around-the-block parade at the Millwood Early Childhood Education Center.
STEVENS COUNTY Colville
With the recent resignation of Superintendent Dr. Rick Cole, the Colville School Board is rushing to find a replacement. The district hopes to have the search finished by the end of the school year.
WHITMAN COUNTY Pullman
The Koppel Farm Spring Fair is scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The farm is located where Derby Street meets Professional Mall Boulevard in Pullman. The seventh annual spring fair and plant sale will include a variety of bedding plants and vegetables. Dan Maher and other area folk musicians will provide music. BENEWAH COUNTY St. Maries
Benewah Community Hospital posted a $154,688 profit for the first six months of its current fiscal year. This time last year, the hospital had a $30,000 deficit.
BONNER COUNTY Sandpoint
Academic and Cultural Exchange, a nonprofit organization that sponsors foreign exchange student visits, is seeking Bonner County families to host students for the upcoming high school year. Students are ages 15 to 18, well-screened and fluent in English. Students arrive in August and come with their own spending money and insurance. Families provide a home, meals and love. Four local representatives of Idaho Women in Timber will travel to Washington, D.C., May 17-21 to address environmental issues and their impact on rural communities. Leslie Streeter, Joni McCoury, Margaret Payne and Jackie McAvoy will be joined by six representatives from other areas in Idaho.

The University of Idaho’s search for a dean of the College of Agriculture has been extended by a committee of representatives from the university and agricultural groups.
UI is replacing David Lineback, who left in November to serve as director of the University of Maryland’s Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.
SHOSHONE COUNTY Kellogg
A Kellogg man was given a 25-year sentence Tuesday for manufacturing methamphetamine. John Harry was sentenced to five years fixed time with 20 years indeterminate by First District Judge Craig Kosonen. Harry pleaded guilty to charges of manufacturing a controlled substance.
MONTANA
LINCOLN COUNTY Libby
The trial of former Lincoln County Commissioner Larry Dolezal has been moved to Polson based on publicity of the case and the fact that Dolezal is well-known as a former county commissioner. Dolezal is charged with two counts of felony theft, each with an alternative count of making false claims to government authorities, also a felony.
The charges follow a nine-month investigation into allegations that between January 1997 and April 1998 Dolezal and fellow commissioners Marianne Roose and Rita Windom received mileage and meal reimbursements when not on official county business. No charges have been filed against Roose or Windom.
