Driver Critically Hurt When Her Vehicle Rolls
An 18-year-old Missoula woman was in critical condition Friday at a Coeur d’Alene hospital after rolling her sport utility vehicle several times on Interstate 90.
Christi A. Forest was driving east when her 1991 Jeep Cherokee drifted off the roadway and into the median, Idaho State Police Cpl. Ed Holbert said. Forest overcorrected, swerved back across the freeway and overcorrected again, causing the truck to slide.
Eventually, the truck rolled several times, demolishing its frame, Holbert said.
Forest, who was wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the Jeep, which landed on her when it stopped rolling in the freeway’s westbound lanes, Holbert said. The Jeep travelled about 600 feet before it came to a rest along the freeway, where the speed limit is 75 mph.
Officers suspect either drowsiness or inattention caused the 6:15 p.m. crash. Severe damage to the truck, and not a malfunctioning seat belt, caused Forest to be thrown from the wreckage, Holbert said.
