George Ahenakew Spokane

Funeral for George Steven Ahenakew, a 20-year Spokane resident, was Friday at Spokane Central Seventh-day Adventist Church. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home South was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ahenakew, who was born in Great Falls, Mont., died Tuesday. He was 38.

He worked as a laborer in the landscaping industry.

Survivors include his wife, Linda; a daughter, Tessy; six sons, Jody, Thurman, Michael, Steven, Anthony and Johnny; his mother, Della Ahenakew of Spokane; his father, Melvin Ahenakew of Cheney; a brother, Anthony Ahenakew of Spokane; seven sisters, Karen Carrier, Charlene, Jennifer, Lavonne, Elaine and Stephanie Ahenakew, all of Spokane, and Leona Rowls of Great Falls.

Reno Checki Spokane

Vigil for Reno Edward Checki, 86, will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Checki died Wednesday.

He worked as a used car dealer for several years.

Mr. Checki was a member of St. Charles Parish, the Elks Lodge, the Hi Yu and Pacific Indian gun clubs and the Spokane Gun Club.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; a son, Damon Checki of Spokane; a daughter, Pamela Johnson of Marlboro, Mass.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice care unit of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Spokane.

Henry `Hank’ Cornella Sandpoint

Service for Henry M. “Hank” Cornella, 88, will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint.

Mr. Cornella, who was born in South Dakota, died Tuesday.

He married Aldene Bucklin in 1933, and they lived in South Dakota, North Dakota and Missouri before moving to Sandpoint in 1942.

Mr. Cornella worked construction at Farragut Naval Station during World War II and owned a general repair shop in Kootenai, Idaho, from 1943-52. He also worked as a mechanic for Cox Implement, Turner Lumber Co., Cade and Pier For,d and Hubbard and Davis.

He had worked as a millwright for the Tenex Division of Pack River Lumber Co. for 23 years before retiring in 1972.

Mr. Cornella was a musician and played the accordian. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Rucker and Janice Hansen, both of Sandpoint, and Marlene Mosher of California; a son, Dennis Cornella of Sandpoint; a brother, Victor Cornella of Arizona; 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Ora `Mae’ Dunn Spokane

Visitation for Ora “Mae” Dunn, 72, will be from noon to 6 p.m. today, Sunday and Monday at Heritage Funeral Home. Graveside service is planned for 3 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Dunn died Wednesday.

She married Darrell Dunn in 1948 and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Linda Britz and Hazel Winterroth, both of Spokane; a sister, Jeannette Peterson of Spokane; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Robert McDonald Cave Junction, Ore.

Memorial service for Robert A. McDonald, a former longtime Spokane resident, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Sunset Mausoleum Chapel on the grounds of Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McDonald, who was born in Spokane, died April 21. He was 88.

He worked at Kaiser Aluminum Mead Works for many years before retiring in 1976.

Mr. McDonald was a member and past master of the Audubon Masonic Lodge 272 in Spokane.

His wife of 51 years, Claudine, died in 1988.

He moved to Cave Junction two years ago to be near his daughter.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Jones of Cave Junction.

Myrtle Arveson Spokane

Funeral for Myrtle C. Arveson, 81, will be today at 2 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 56-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Arveson died Wednesday. She was born in Newport, Wash.

Mrs. Arveson was a homemaker and a longtime member of Salem Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Maynard; a daughter, Marjorie Arndt of Spokane; a son, John Arveson of Lynnwood, Wash.; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Salem Lutheran Church or the Lilac Blind Foundation.
