Destinations near the St. Joe River are gearing up for the summer season.

The Emerald Creek Garnet Area will operate May 29-Sept. 6, although it will be closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Hours will be 9 a.m. -5 p.m. Cost: $10 for adults, $5.00 for children age 14 and under.

In order to protect a spawning area for cutthroat trout, digging will be restricted in a portion of the garnet area until July 3.

Limited numbers of shovels, buckets or screen boxes can be rented at the site for $1 apiece a day.

Marble Creek Interpretive Site, with its logging history displays, was scheduled to open this weekend.

Emerald Creek Campground is closed for renovations until late summer.
