WASHINGTON

Adams County Washtucna

Four local students distinguished themselves at the recent Whitman County Speech, Spelling and Math Contest in Rosalia. Out of 250 fifth- through eighth-graders competing, Karlee Miller and Kyle Lepper took top honors in persuasive speech, and Brian Baumann and Keaton Hille took first place in the math competition for their age groups.

Ferry County Republic

Grant County Grand Coulee

Grand Coulee has become the last town in the county to adopt a new computer system to check evidence, names and crime information.

Lincoln County Wilbur

Lifelong resident Ing Hansen was recently honored for his community activism. Hansen was chosen as grand marshal for the recent Wild Goose Bill Days Parade. He graduated from Wilbur High School in 1933, worked on Grand Coulee Dam and farmed.

Pend Oreille County Newport

The Pend Oreille County WSU Cooperative Extension has scheduled a gardening workshop, “Landscaping with Natural Plant Communities,” on Wednesday.

Spokane County Colbert

Paintings of the Salmon River by Jan Wilhelmi are on display at Twin Totems Gallery, 5117 E. Greenbluff Road, through May 29.

Stevens County Colville

The Greased Pole Climb, once a fixture at the Northeast Washington Fair, is back to challenge and tempt young climbers at the Colville Rendezvous, Aug. 6-8. The pole climb will offer a prize of $50 cash.

The city of Plummer has contracted with Kootenai Electric Cooperative to provide operation, maintenance and engineering services to the city’s electric utility system.

Latah County Moscow

The Fashion Be Dazzled exhibit of 1920s clothing opens today and continues through the summer at McConnell Mansion, 110 S. Adams, in Moscow. The exhibit offers a cultural comparison with the work of Nez Perce crafters and those of Southeast Asia, India and Africa.

Shoshone County Kellogg

The county Democratic Women’s Caucus will hold a no-host luncheon Tuesday at noon at the Broken Wheel Restaurant.
