Edna Hansen Coeur d’Alene
Memorial service for Edna J. Baxter Hansen, 89, will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Mrs. Hansen, who was born in Illinois, died Monday.
She married Calvin Baxter in 1930 and they lived in Kansas before moving to Cottonwood, Idaho. They later settled in Coeur d’Alene.
Mrs. Hansen worked as a cook at various local restaurants and at the Arrowhead Point Boy Scout Camp.
Her husband died in 1950.
In 1954 she married Jorgen Hansen. The couple lived in Coeur d’Alene and traveled extensively in the Northwest and California.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Carole Wold of Maple Valley, Wash., and Betty Paddelford of California; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Helen Helmer Bonners Ferry
Burial Mass for Helen Francisca Helmer, 94, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bonners Ferry. Vigil service was held Wednesday at Bonners Ferry Funeral Home. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry.
Mrs. Helmer, who was born in Carrington, N.D., died Monday.
She attended college in Valley City, N.D., and Cedar Falls, Iowa, and received a degree in education. She married Ted Helmer in 1935.
Mrs. Helmer taught school in Carrington before moving to Bonners Ferry where she continued a career as an educator. She also was a homemaker.
She had spent summers in Bonners Ferry and also had a cabin in Canada and wintered in Arizona.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Ann Jewell of Spokane; a son, Ted Helmer of California; three grandchildren, Jim, Kevin and Theresa; and two great-grandchildren.

Benjamin Hagmann Spokane
Funeral Mass for Benjamin Edward Hagmann will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be at Dartford Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hagmann, 78, died Saturday. He was born in Los Angeles and was a 47-year Spokane resident.
He served in the Army Air Corps as a glider instructor during World War II.
He was a Jesuit brother at Mount St. Michaels in the early 1950s.
Mr. Hagmann worked as a photographer.
He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and the Spokane Chapter of Our Lady of the Roses.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Ginny; two sons, Mick Hagmann of Spokane and Nelson French of Snowflake, Ariz.; two daughters, Lynda Gasper of Auburn, Wash., and Cynthia Hensmen of Aberdeenshire, Scotland; three brothers, Richard and Walter Hagmann, both of Spokane, and Alfred Hagmann of Oceanside, Calif.; a sister, Mary Kennedy of Beaverton, Ore.; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Mabel Lipps Spokane
Visitation for Mabel H. Lipps, 90, will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Service is planned for 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Private burial will be at Pines Cemetery.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Lipps died Monday.
She graduated from West Valley High School.
Mrs. Lipps worked as an accounting supervisor for General Telephone Co. from 1944 to 1965.
She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, the Telephone Pioneers, the Spokane Valley Pioneers, Lutheran Service Volunteers and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Mrs. Lipps was a volunteer for 10 years at the Good Samaritan in Greenacres and with Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Calvin; and a sister, Ilene Richards of Seattle.
Beverly Pearce Coeur d’Alene
Memorial service for Beverly Pearce, 67, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel, with a reception to follow at the Hayden Chapel Gathering Center.
Mrs. Pearce, who was born in Nampa, Idaho, died Monday.
She grew up and attended schools in Nampa.
In 1954 she married Raymond Pearce. They moved to Osburn, Idaho.
Mrs. Pearce worked as a retail clerk in the grocery industry for many years. She lived in Sparks, Nev., and Jeffery, Wyo., before returning to Osburn in 1989.
The Pearces moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1993.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Mike Pearce of Hayden, Idaho, and Greg Cuddeback of Seattle; four brothers, Herb Salois of Montana, Jim Salois of California, Jerry Salois of Seattle, and Tim Alderman of Glenns Ferry, Idaho; a sister, Haroldine Salois of Nampa; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Charles McNeil Pullman
Memorial service for Charles W. McNeil, 83, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Simpson Methodist Church in Pullman. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McNeil, who was born in Tecumseh, Mich., died Saturday.
He received a bachelor’s degree in zoology from the University of Michigan in 1938. He received a master’s degree in 1940 and a doctorate in 1942 from the university.
In 1940 he married Edna Wiesner.
He was a tank inspector with the Detroit Ordnance District from 1942 to 1943. Mr. McNeil served in the Navy during World War II and spent three years conducting malaria research in Australia, New Guinea and The Philippines. He retired as a commander.
In 1946 he went to work as a zoology professor at Washington State College. He conducted research with emphasis on parasitology. He retired in 1981 as professor emeritus of zoology and general biology. He served as acting chair of the zoology department from 1964 to 1965 and again from 1968 to 1969.
He served as a visiting scientist in the Department of Parasitology at Alexandria University in Egypt from 1965 to 1966.
Mr. McNeil was a member of the American Society of Parasitologists, the American Microscopical Society, Phi Sigma, Sigma Xi and Phi Kappa Phi.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Earle McNeil of Olympia; a daughter, Ellen McNeil of Auckland, New Zealand; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mireille Warren Spokane
Service for Mireille Martha Warren, 79, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Miss Warren, who was born in St. Maries, died Saturday.
She moved to Spokane in 1933.
She is survived by a brother, William Warren of Spokane.
Martha Cobb Spokane
Service for Martha Ella Cobb, 88, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in Harrington, Wash.
Mrs. Cobb, who was born in Independence, Mo., died Friday.
She grew up in Sprague, Wash. In 1932, she graduated from Deaconess School of Nursing.
Mrs. Cobb worked as a registered nurse until she 1936 when she married Elmer Cobb.
They lived in Harrington until 1951, when they moved to the Spokane area. They moved to the Spokane Valley in 1973.
Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Helen Brewer of Buckley, Wash.; a son, William Cobb of Kennewick; a sister, Joyce Goodale of Washougal, Wash.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Talbot Ferguson Post Falls
No service will be held for Talbot Ferguson, 73, at his request. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ferguson, who was born in Abington, Pa., died Oct. 5.
He had studied dramatics for two years in New York and later worked as a salesman for American Airlines and the Jamaica Tourist Board.
Mr. Ferguson moved to the Post Falls area in the 1980s.
Survivors include two daughters, Kim Cooper of Jamaica and Cyd Millar; a sister, Polly Knaster of New York City; and two granddaughters, Brittany and Carly.
Garland Haas Spokane
Memorial service for Garland A. Haas, 80, will be at 2 p.m. today at Whitworth Presbyterian Church. Private burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Haas, who was born in Evansville, Ill., died Saturday.
He served in the Navy from 1940 to 1942.
Mr. Haas graduated from the University of Indiana with a bachelor’s degree in business and later received a master’s degree in government.
He became a teacher at Riverside College in California and later at Eastern Washington University.
Mr. Haas received a doctorate in philosophy in 1958 from the University of Washington.
He was the project director for the County Medical Services Bureau.
In 1958, he and his family served for three years in Pakistan under the Presbyterian Mission Board. He served as a missionary teacher at Gordon Christian College in Rawalpindi.
He moved to Spokane in 1961 and become an associate professor of political science at Whitworth College. He retired after 21 years.
Mr. Haas served as a visiting professor on three voyages of Semester at Sea and at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks. He also served as a courier for People to People International and wrote three books.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the American Political Science Association and the American Association of University Professors. He served on the Whitworth College Foundation and on the board of directors for Presbyterian Ministries.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Pauline; a son, Joseph Haas of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a daughter, Judith McKeehan of Cheney; six grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.
