Obituries

Myrtle (Purington) Percy Spokane

Funeral Mass service for Myrtle P. (Purington) Percy, 89, is planned for 10 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Rathdrum, Idaho, Mrs. Percy died Wednesday.

She played the organ at Catholic churches in Rathdrum, Plains, Mont., and Pullman. She also taught music in Plains and Paradise, Mont.

Mrs. Percy later worked at Washington State University, retiring in 1975 as a buyer for the purchasing department.

She moved to Spokane in 1985.

Her husband, Joseph “Frank” Percy, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Ryon of Northridge, Calif.; a son, Frank Percy of Veradale; a brother, Jerry Purington of Lewiston; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Thelma `Jayne’ Greene Spokane

Service for Thelma “Jayne” Greene, 75, will be at noon today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Greene, who died Sunday, was born in Elk.

Her family moved to Spokane when she was a child and she graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

Mrs. Green was a cook at the high school for more than 20 years. She later worked in food service at Playfair Race Course.

She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary 51 and the Eagles Lodge in Deer Park.

Her husband, Leonard Greene, died in 1992.

Survivors include three daughters, Shelley Schoultz, Chris Anderson and Shannon Swennumson, all of Spokane; two brothers, Lewis and Ralph Daughtery, both of Deer Park; two sisters, Lilly Dilley of Spokane and Alberta Holt of Milpitas, Calif.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children.

Edward Bailey Spokane

Graveside service for Edward Lee Bailey, 64, will be at 2 p.m. today at Riverside Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Bailey died Thursday.

He worked as a mechanic in the automotive industry.

His wife, Rose Mary Bailey, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Edward Bailey, and a brother, Everett Bailey Jr., both of Spokane.

Lillian Anselmo Spokane

Funeral Mass for Lillian A. Anselmo, 82, will be at 11 a.m. today at Mary Queen Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Anselmo, who was born in Michel, British Columbia, died Sunday. She had been a 38-year Spokane resident, and worked as the cafeteria supervisor at Newberry’s.

Her husband, Michele, died in 1958.

Survivors include a son, Charlie Anselmo; a daughter, Theresa Welch; four sisters, Stella Martino and Emma Ungoro, both of Spokane, and Jenny Porco and Liz Cozzetto, both of Kelowna, British Columbia; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Linda Lindberg Otis Orchards

Memorial service for Linda Diane Lindberg, 48, will be at 3 p.m. today at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lindberg, who was born in Chewelah, Wash., died Wednesday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Highway 95. She was a 47-year Otis Orchards resident.

She worked as a sales representative for John Morrell Meat Company.

Survivors include her husband, David; a son, Beau Rich of Greenacres; four daughters, Tanya Rich, Marcella Lindberg and Rebecca Musgrave, all of Greenacres, and Monica Lindberg of Star Lake, Wash.; her parents, Richard and Arline Battin of Chewelah; two sisters, Dena Battin of Deer Lake and Christie Depaulo of Nebraska; two brothers, Don Lindberg of Buckley, Wash., and Doug Orn on Angle Lake in Sea Tac, Wash.; and a grandson.

Jennifer Hoobler-Knoke Moscow, Idaho

Viewing for Jennifer Lynn Hoobler-Knoke, 27, will be from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow. Service is planned for 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints Stake Center in Moscow. Burial will follow at Moscow Cemetery.

Ms. Hoobler-Knoke, who was born in Idaho Falls, died Wednesday from injuries suffered in a car accident south of Moscow on Highway 95.

She moved to Moscow in 1974 and attended school there. She received her general equivalency diploma in 1993.

Mrs. Hoobler-Knoke graduated from Mr. Leon’s School of Hair Design in Moscow in 1994 and had worked at various local salons, including Just Right Haircuts, Third Dimensions, NorthWest Beauty Salon, and recently for Fantastic Sam’s in Pullman.

Survivors include three children, Sheighle and Stephan Hoobler, and Toree Knoke, all of Moscow; her parents, Michael and Peggy Hoobler of Moscow; a brother, Robert Hoobler of Boise; and her grandmother, Louise Hoobler of Meridian, Idaho.

Memorials may be made to the Moscow Volunteer Ambulance.

R.J. `Bud’ Stanford Spokane

Graveside service for R.J. “Bud” Stanford, 89, will be at 2 p.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stanford, who was born in Wallace, Idaho, died Monday.

His family moved to Spokane in 1910.

He worked as a hard rock miner in Coeur d’Alene for 12 years and later became a shift supervisor in the Sunshine Silver Mines.

In 1944 Mr. Stanford began working for Bitco, Inc., and established its Spokane branch. He served as branch manager and retired in 1974.

He was a member of the Shoshone Masonic Lodge 25, the El Katif Temple and the Scottish Rite.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vivian.

Survivors include his wife, Muriel; a son, Jay Stanford; a stepdaughter, Cathy Sutherland; two stepsons, Jack and Scott Thorpe; a sister, Loretta Felton; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Donna Duncan Spokane

Funeral Mass for Donna L. Duncan, 67, will be at 9 a.m. today at HennesseySmith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Duncan died Wednesday.

She was a homemaker and was active with Holy Family Adult Care Center.

Survivors include two sons, Randy Newberger of Orange County, Calif., and Dale Newberger of Houston; her parents, Louie and Susan Curley, and a sister, Dee Dee Morris, all of Spokane; and one grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Adult Care Center.

Sister Mary McKinnon, SNJM Spokane

Funeral Mass for Sister Mary Wilma McKinnon, 88, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Convent of the Holy Names. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sister McKinnon, who was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, died Wednesday.

She entered the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary in 1930 and made her religious profession in 1932.

Sister McKinnon was an elementary school teacher in Washington and Oregon from 1932 to 1986.

She moved to Spokane in 1986.

There are no surviving family members.

Mayme Coffman Bellingham

Graveside service for Mayme M. Coffman, a former Sprague, Wash., resident, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Macabee Cemetery in Sprague, Wash. Jones-Moles Funeral home in Bellingham is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Coffman, who was born in Blanchard, Mich., died Sunday. She was 94.

She graduated from Snohomish (Wash.) High School in 1923. Mrs. Coffman worked for a telephone company in the Seattle area for 10 years.

In 1934 she married Stanley Coffman and they lived in Seattle.

Mrs. Coffman and her family moved to Sprague in 1947. They farmed in the area until 1969.

She and her husband moved to Bellingham in 1993. Her husband died in 1993.

Survivors include a daughter, Diane Shantz of Bellingham; a brother, Gail Kelley of Snohomish; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Marie (Sweeney) McGreevy Spokane

Vigil service for Marie H. (Sweeney) McGreevy, 85, will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. McGreevy, who was born in Montreal, died Monday.

Her family moved to Spokane when she was 14.

She graduated from Holy Names Academy. In 1937 she married Neil McGreevy.

Mrs. McGreevy worked as a market researcher.

She was a founding member of the Spokane Ski Club. Mrs. McGreevy was a volunteer with the United Way, The Spokane Club, Immaculate Heart Retreat Center and the Catholic Diocese of Spokane. She also was a volunteer for St. Augustine School, Gonzaga Prep and Gonzaga University.

Her husband died in 1992.

Survivors include six daughters, Helen Jolly of Edmonds, Wash., Midge Kuster of San Pedro, Calif., Connie Emry of Spokane, Marcia Lewis of Seattle, Melly Kinnard of Englewood, Colo., and Jeannie McGreevy of Berkeley, Calif.; three sons, Michael McGreevy of Palm Desert, Calif., Daniel McGreevy of Bellingham and Richard McGreevy of Seattle; a brother, Joseph Sweeney of Hemet, Calif.; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Catholic Relief Services or the Poor Clare Nuns.

Frank Gobel Spokane

Memorial service for Frank V. Gobel, 86, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Mr. Gobel, who was born in Oakland, Calif., died Monday.

He served in the Army and was stationed at Fort George Wright Military Base.

Mr. Gobel moved to Spokane in 1944.

He worked for Boge Brothers Bakery and retired in 1978.

Mr. Gobel was a member of the Moose and Eagles lodges and the Bakery and Confectionery Workers Union.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Effie; a daughter, Sylvia Gobel of Spokane; a son, Kevin Gobel of Seattle; and two grandchildren.

Willard Mitchell Jr. Spokane

Memorial service for Willard E. “Bill” Mitchell Jr., 75, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mitchell, who was born in Great Falls, Mont., died Wednesday. He had been a Spokane resident for more than 40 years.

He graduated from Anaconda (Mont.) High School, and in 1946 graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Washington State College.

Mr. Mitchell worked as a residential contractor, before retiring in 1980.

He was in the second People to People exchange behind the Iron Curtain during the Eisenhower administration.

He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity, the Grey W Athletic Association, the Glastonbury Men’s Group at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and the Model A Ford Club of America. He was the Inland Empire representative of the Model A Restorers Club of America, and was also a member and past board member of the Spokane Home Builders Association.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Joyce; a son, John Mitchell, and two stepsons, Kevin and Barrett Smith, all of Spokane; a stepdaughter, Stacey Streeter of Billings, Mont.; and 12 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church Memorial Fund or the Anaconda Montana State Historical Society Museum.

Clayton Pickett Spokane

Graveside service for Clayton M. Pickett, 95, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 51-year Spokane resident, Mr. Pickett died Tuesday. He was born in Rosalia, Wash.

He graduated from the University of Idaho, where he was a track and field athlete.

In 1929 he married Margaret Decker.

He worked as a lumber inspector and retired from Western Wood Products Association in 1969.

His wife preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Alan Pickett of Airway Heights; a daughter; Karen Morse of Spokane; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
