Skyway’S Name, Mascot Approved

The Coeur d’Alene School District’s 10th elementary school will be named Skyway Elementary when it opens in the fall of 2000.

Its mascot will be the eagle.

The district’s school board voted unanimously Monday to take the suggestion of a committee that polled the community for names. The school is under construction west of Lake City High School.

The committee, headed by the new elementary school’s future principal Pam Pratt, asked the community for suggestions and received more than 125 names. The committee narrowed the list and made a recommendation to the school board.

The spectacular sunsets at the school site merited selecting the name Skyway, the committee concluded.
