Ovaries Symbolize Creativity, Desire

Nancy Huseby Bloom The Spokesma

Dear Nancy: I am a 76-year-old grandmother, married for 54 years to my wonderful husband. I’ve been experiencing health problems that have prevented me from doing some things I once loved to do. But I’m still a curious and positive person. Here’s my dream. - Ruth Ann

I’m walking along and suddenly realize that two large healthy, liver-colored football-shaped organs are hanging on either side of me, attached to my body by strings. They swing as I walk. I realize they are my ovaries! I don’t feel any pain and I’m in a good mood, but I’m curious as to why they’re outside of my body. I experience an orgasm which seems to tie in with the ovaries.

Dear Ruth Ann: When a dream features a particular body part, it’s a good idea to first explore the dream in a literal sense. In your dream these organs are big and healthy. Do you still have your ovaries or are they literally outside of you?

Body parts (including organs) in dreams often pinpoint the subject of the dream, especially when they’re over-sized. Ovaries are part of the reproductive system, and are symbols not only of sex and desire, but they’re also related to creativity, whether they are creations of the mind or body.

The most peculiar thing about these ovaries is that they’re on the outside of your body. Do you feel like you are hanging onto your creativity by a thread? When we spoke on the telephone, I asked if you have been feeling disconnected from your sexual desire or creativity. Your answer was a resounding “Yes!,” and the confirmation that since your health problems began it’s been difficult for you to garden, quilt and do the other things you love to do.

Looking at the large and healthy ovaries, the dream’s message might be that you have an incredible capacity for creativity and sensuality. What new seed-ideas are hanging around you?

If this were my dream, I’d know that I’m metaphorically a very fertile woman and able to produce something wonderful and new. As for the orgasm, perhaps recognizing and using this creativity in yourself will lead to a kind of satisfaction you have never known!

Reader tips: Sexual dreams are very common and often pertain to a particular relationship. These dreams most often occur when we are actively involved with someone or wishing, perhaps unconsciously, to be involved. But when reproductive organs, male or female, seem to be the “star of the dream show” and are oversized or standing out in any other way, the dream may be pointing to your innate creativity and what you’re doing with it.

It’s important to remember that the act of sex is the most creative thing in this world. Physically and metaphorically, reproductive organs carry the seeds of fertility and creativity.

Dreamers are often surprised to find themselves with sexual organs of the opposite sex. Women who are especially in touch with their creativity often find themselves in dreams with a huge erect penis! Many men find themselves pregnant in a dream when they are working on a big project or giving birth to an idea, new attitudes or behaviors.
