Metors To Shower
Skywatching
The Leonid meteor shower will occur Nov. 16-19 and is expected to peak early in the morning Nov. 18 in the eastern sky.
The moon will set about 1 a.m. on the 18th, leaving dark skies for optimal early morning viewing.
The Leonid shower is produced by dust and sand-sized specks left by the passage of Comet Tempel-Tuttle. The shower peaks in 33-year cycles. The comet last passed through the inner solar system last year. The last Leonid meteor storm occurred in 1966. Astronomers believe this could be the year for another huge display.
