Churches Plan Thanksgiving Services

Nina Culver Correspondent

With Thanksgiving Day approaching, several North Side churches are offering special worship services to provide time for people to pause and give thanks for what they have. Most are scheduled for the eve of the big day, which leaves plenty of time for feasting and family on the day itself.

The congregations of Prince of Peace Lutheran and Messiah Lutheran are joining together for a Thanksgiving Eve worship service at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Messiah, 4202 N. Belt. The service will feature a mass choir. Donations of canned goods and frozen turkey will be collected for the Food Bank.

Northwood Presbyterian and St. David’s Episcopal are joining together to offer a community Thanksgiving Eve service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Northwood, 6721 N. Monroe. The service will include a combined choir, a bell choir and a children’s sermon. Child care will be available, and a special offering will be collected for Caritas Center.

Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church, 312 W. Hawthorne Road, will celebrate Thanksgiving with a worship service at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The church is also planning a potluck dinner on Thanksgiving Day at 3:30 p.m. in Quall Hall. Those attending are asked to bring a side dish to share.

Advance reservations are required and can be made by calling the church office at 466-0305.

Cathedral bazaar and silent auction

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes will have its annual bazaar this weekend. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. There will be baked goods, crafts, Christmas and Advent items and a raffle.

The raffle items include a handmade quilt, a television and a $1,000 travel certificate. There will also be a silent auction featuring more than 200 items. Lunch will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday for $4. A french toast brunch will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday for $4 for adults, $2 for children.

The Cathedral is located at 1115 W. Riverside.
