Shareholders Ok Egghead Merger

From Staff

The pairing of two online retailers was completed Friday as shareholders of Egghead.com approved a merger with Onsale.

Egghead, an Internet software and computer retailer, earlier this year moved its headquarters to Vancouver, Wash., from Spokane.

Egghead CEO George Orban will be chairman of the new company, which retains the Egghead name.

Onsale chairman Jerry Kaplan will be CEO.

Both Egghead and Onsale have not seen profits from their e-commerce efforts and hope the merger will allow cost cutting while building a more recognizable brand name around Egghead.

The merger is valued at about $400 million. Combined revenues of the companies are expected to reach $500 million by year’s end.

Egghead’s headquarters will move again, this time to in Menlo Park, Calif., where Onsale is based.
