Three Cheers For Result Despite Questionable Method

D.F. Oliveria The Spokesman-Re

Sure, there are questions surrounding the use of the Global Positioning Systems device to find Valiree Jackson’s body. But let’s let the courts work on those. Meanwhile, no one can object to the results produced by the satellite spy system. Or the fine work performed by Spokane County sheriff’s deputies to find the unfortunate 9-year-old’s body and to arrest her father as a murder suspect. Equally impressive, sheriff’s deputies dug through falling snow Sunday in hopes of finding her mother’s body, too. That’s above and beyond. Well done, Sheriff Mark Sterk & Co.

Making do without `luxuries’ in Spudville

Incredibly, Post Falls High girls won the Idaho swim title without a home pool. But I wouldn’t make too big of a deal about it. Next thing you know, tax rebels will be pushing for Spud State schools to educate Generation Y without buildings … Hey, you Washingtonians shouldn’t laugh. After all, your teachers received an F from the Thomas B. Fordham Foundation (whatever that is), while Idaho teachers, with a lot less funding, earned a (drum roll, please) D minus. That’s not much to write home about. But it’s nice for Idaho schools to beat those in Washington in something other than football … French Fries on the Side (or “Things For Which This Potatohead is Thankful): 1. Wazzu football is almost over, 2. People who go against the flow, 3. Talk radio (because it makes us look good), 4. 141,000 subscribers, and 5. A wife and family who share laughs.

Ex-Silver Valley resident glad to share wealth

An e-mailer, with tongue firmly cheeked, sees poetic justice in the toxic gunk that is moving downstream from Idaho’s Silver Valley: “As an Idaho boy who couldn’t make a living working at the family mine, I take some comfort in the fact that not all of the mine wastes have stayed in the Fabulous Valley. They are being sent to Coeur d’Alene and Spokane on the installment plan” … They might not always show it, but Generation Y thinks family is important. On Monday, seven out of seven correspondents for the Our Generation page mentioned family as one of the top three things for which they’re thankful … Today’s edition of Hot Potatoes was brought to you by the No. 7,000, or the number of George Washingtons that Boise State football coach Dirk Koetter received as a bonus for beating Idaho. And you thought your job was important.
