Yule-Tree Events Will Benefit Symphony

Nina Culver Correspondent

Christmas is rapidly approaching, which must mean it’s time for the annual Christmas Tree Elegance raffle.

The weeklong event, which begins today, is sponsored by the Spokane Symphony Associates to benefit the Spokane Symphony Orchestra. All events are scheduled at Cavanaughs Inn at the Park, 303 W. North River Drive.

The preview of trees is from noon to 8 p.m. today, Monday and Tuesday. This year 12 trees, featuring gifts and trips around the world, will be displayed. Featured destinations include New Zealand, Vienna, the British Isles, France, Cozumel, the Caribbean, Boston, Alaska, San Francisco, San Diego, Hawaii and Washington, D.C.

Admission is $2.50 for adults today and Tuesday. Children under 12 are admitted free all three days, and adults are admitted free on Monday.

There will be refreshments and entertainment, including local dance groups, music and Santa Claus.

A Taste of Elegance cocktail party will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday. There will be dancing, a buffet dinner and an auction of a white-water rafting trip.

The winning raffle tickets for trees 3 and 9 will be drawn during the evening. The cost is $35.

The event wraps up with a black-tie Gala Dinner Dance from 6:30 p.m. to midnight Friday. “That Good Time Band” will provide dancing music, and the winning raffle tickets for the remaining trees will be drawn. Cost is $100. All tickets, including raffle tickets, can be purchased by calling the symphony office at 326-3136.
