George Berglund Spokane
Memorial service for George Weber Berglund, 76, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the Spokane Country Club. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Berglund, who was born in Knox County, Neb., died Wednesday.
He graduated from high school in Laurel, Nev., and served in the Navy as a carrier-based pilot flying Corsairs.
Mr. Berglund graduated from Iowa State College with a degree in mechanical engineering.
He worked as a engineer for a small company in Ames, Iowa. He later worked as a salesman for Caterpillar machinery in Des Moines, Iowa.
In 1962 he moved to Spokane and became an executive and partner in Bower Machinery.
He was a member of the Spokane Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Margie; two sons, Steven and Jeffrey Berglund; and a sister, Irene Farlee of Soquel, Calif.

Leon `Jake’ Jacobsen Colville, Wash.
Service for Leon Peter “Jake” Jacobsen, 89, will be at 1 p.m. today at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville.
Mr. Jacobsen, an 83-year-old Colville resident, died Monday. He was born in Aarhus, Denmark.
He served in the Army during World War II. In 1945 he married Wilma Rasmussen.
Mr. Jacobsen worked as a finish carpenter and home builder.
He was a member of the Colville Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Colville American Legion, the Eagles Lodge and the Colville Kiwanis Club.
His wife died Sept. 6.
Survivors include his brother, Henry Jacobsen of Colville; and a sister, Lilly Kelly of Modesto, Calif.

William Carroll Spokane
Burial for William J. “Willie” Carroll, 88, will be at 10 a.m. today at Riverside Memorial Park. Memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Carroll, who was born in Casper, Wyo., died Tuesday.
He moved to Spokane in 1944 and helped his brother operate North Hill Cleaners. He later worked at Crystal and Troy laundries.
Mr. Carroll was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, the American Association of Retired Persons and Teamsters Union Local 582.
His wife of 44 years, Muriel, died Sept. 16.
He is survived by a brother, Robert Carroll of Mica.

Leonard Jansen Spokane
Memorial service for Leonard F. Jansen, 82, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Jansen, who was born in Lind, Wash., died Sept. 21.
In 1940 he graduated cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, with a degree in political science from Whitman College. He served in the Navy during World War II as an operations officer.
In 1942 he married Jean Driver. He graduated from Columbia Law School in 1947.
Mr. Jansen worked in private practice in Lind, Ritzvile, Wash., and Spokane for more than 40 years. He served as general counsel to Big Bend Electric, East Columbia Basin Irrigation District and the Washington Association of Wheat Growers.
He served on the board of directors at Deaconess Hospital and as chairman for the Spokane Library Board. He was also active in the First Safety House of Rotary International and the Spokane Council of Ecumenical Ministries.
Mr. Jansen was a member of St. John’s Properties Diocesan Housing. He was a 33rd degree Mason.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Judy French of Lake Oswego, Ore.; a son, Larry Jansen of Renton, Wash.; two sisters, Freida Burroughs of Walla Walla and Gladys Watkins of Seattle; and three grandchildren.

Henry Buller Spokane
Visitation for Air Force veteran Henry Anthony Buller, a two-time recipient of the Silver Star, will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Vigil service will follow at 6 p.m. Funeral Mass is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Assumption Roman Catholic Church. Graveside service will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mr. Buller, a 30-year Spokane resident, died Sunday. He was 79.
He was born in Billings, Mont., and graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1938.
He joined the Army Air Corps in 1939, and in 1941 he was stationed at Clark Field in the Philippines and was one of the last Americans to be evacuated when the Japanese invaded. He flew more than 35 B-17 missions as a machine gunner and a bombardier in the Pacific.
In 1943 he was declared a “great Montanan” in the Congressional Record.
In 1948, while stated in Germany, he participated in the Berlin Airlift, and in 1953 he served with the Air Attache Office in Prague, Czechoslovakia.
He married Kerstin Carlson in 1959 in Zurich, Switzerland.
In 1963, while stationed at Bolling Air Base in Washington, D.C., he served as an usher at President Kennedy’s funeral.
He retired in 1969 as an Air Force chief master sergeant and moved to Spokane.
He worked as a supervisor in central supply at Sacred Heart Medical Center for 14 years.
He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church. He was also a past president of he Swedish Club.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Patricia Erickson of Spokane and Christine Erickson of Sagle, Idaho; a son, Michael Buller of Seattle; two sisters, Dorothy and Magdalene Buller Winslow, both of Billings; two brothers, John Buller of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Russell Buller of Clarkston, Mich.; and five grandchildren.

Lawrence Ferrell Spokane
Graveside service for Lawrence R. Ferrell, 60, will be at 2 p.m. today at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Spokane, Mr. Ferrell died Saturday.
He was a 25-year Spokane resident and worked at Alumax, Inc. in Spokane for 15 years. He retired in 1990 as a machinist.
Mr. Ferrell was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 2.
His wife of 38 years, Gilda, died in 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Ferrell; five stepsons, Steve, Bill, Gene, Roger and Frank Scrattish Jr.; two brothers, Terri Ricks and Butch Pryor; two sisters, Connie Chapman and Tracie Long; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Joan Carpenter Greenacres
Memorial service for Joan M. Carpenter, 71, will be at 2 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.
A 27-year Greenacres resident, Mrs. Carpenter died Wednesday. She was born in Crawford, Neb.
She was a homemaker and a member and past secretary of the Coachman Club. She was also an officer with TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) in the Valley.
Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Leonard; three sons, Chuck and Sam Carpenter, both of Spokane, and Marty Utecht of Corvallis, Ore.; three daughters, Marie Lackman and Dinah Carpenter, both of Spokane, and Elizabeth Vasquez of Juneau, Alaska; and four sisters.
Patricia Kirpes Colton, Wash.
Rosary for Patricia Ann Kirpes, 61, will be at 6:30 p.m. today at St. Gall’s Roman Catholic Church in Colton. Funeral Mass is planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at St. Gall’s Cemetery. Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime Colton resident, Mrs. Kirpes died Tuesday. She was 61.
She graduated from the Notre Dame Academy in Colton.
Mrs. Kirpes worked as a bus driver and custodian for the Colton School District for 38 years. She retired from her custodial duties in 1998. She continued to work as a bus driver and became a hospice volunteer.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Larry; three sons, Kelly and Keith Kirpes, both of Colton, and Kris Kirpes of Rowlett, Texas; three brothers, Norm and Dick Druffel, both of Pullman, and Ron Druffel of Colton; a sister, Joyce Heitstuman of Colton; and three grandsons.

Eugene Long Spokane
Memorial service for Eugene S. Long, 84, will be at 3 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Long died Tuesday.
He worked as a fireman at Fairchild Air Force Base as a civilian and in Deep Creek for 25 years.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Emma; a daughter, Kathy Conway of Spokane; and a sister, Veda Long of Deer Park.
John `Jay’ Stewart Kellogg
A celebration of the life of John K. “Jay” Stewart, 49, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. near Deer Park. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Stewart, who was born in Sheridan, Wyo., died Wednesday.
He had lived in Spokane and worked as a carpenter and farmhand in the Deer Park area before becoming disabled. He moved to the Silver Valley in 1988.
Mr. Stewart served in the Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his companion, Dianne Stewart; a son, John “Jay” Stewart, his mother, Norma Beeson, and a sister, Tana Erickson, all of Montana; two stepdaughters, Tina Reynolds of Detroit and Misty Dempsey of Silverton, Idaho; and five grandchildren.

Janet (Squibb) Eddy Palm Springs, Calif.
Memorial service for Janet (Squibb) Eddy, 67, is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Unity Church of Truth. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Eddy, who was born in Spokane, died Sept. 15.
She graduated from Gonzaga University and taught for School District 81 for 30 years before becoming a children’s librarian. She retired in 1996 and moved to Palm Springs.
Mrs. Eddy was a member of St. Paul in the Desert Church and was active in its Sunday School.
Survivors include her husband of 19 years, Dennis; and a brother, Richard Squibb of Palm Springs.
Leon Miller St. John, Wash.
Funeral for Leon Miller, 89, former longtime mayor of St. John, will be at 2 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church in St. John. Burial will follow at the St. John Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Miller, who was born in Wilson Creek, Wash., died Monday.
His family moved to St. John when he was an infant. He graduated from St. John High School in 1928.
He married Eva White in 1928, and they farmed near Ewan, Wash. He served as mayor of St. John for 20 years.
Mr. Miller served on the St. John Telephone board for 39 years. He also served as director on the St. John Grange Supply board for 35 years.
He was a member of the Eaton and Whitman County Pomona Granges, the Masonic Lodge and the Order of Eastern Star. He was also a member of the St. John United Methodist Church.
His wife died in 1983.
Survivors include a daughter, Jacklyn Pollock of St. John; two granddaughters, five great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Michael Sullivan Spokane

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Sullivan died Wednesday.
He served as an aircraft mechanic in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Sullivan worked as an auto mechanic for Sullivan Automotive. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lucille; a son, Timothy Sullivan of Spokane; a daughter Linda Pangerl of Elk; a sister, Mary McLane of Spokane; and five grandchildren.

Clifford Noseworthy Spokane
Memorial service for Clifford Michael Noseworthy, 38, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Kettle River Grange near Barstow, Wash. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Noseworthy, who was born in Edmonton, Alberta, died Sept. 20.
He graduated from Menlo Park (Calif.) High School. He received a culinary arts degree from a school in California.
In 1986 he moved to Kettle Falls and established the Hudson Bay Restaurant. He later moved to Orient, Wash. He moved to Spokane in 1996 and worked at the Otter Bay and Salty’s restaurants.
Survivors include a son, Nicholas Porter of Orient; his fiancee, Kathleen Miller of Spokane; and a sister, Catherine Hardy of Menlo Park.
Jessica Mier-Curry Medical Lake

Jessica, 8, was killed Sunday at her home.
She was born in Seattle and recently had moved to Medical Lake with family.
Survivors include her mother, Sharon Curry of Medical Lake; her father, Alfonso Mier; a sister, Jamie Curry and a brother, Shayne Curry.
Richard Pollock Greenacres
Memorial service for Richard A. “Dick” Pollock, 60, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Liberty Lake. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
A 49-year Spokane County resident, Mr. Pollock died Tuesday. He was born in Cedar Edge, Colo.
He served as a Navy Seal and was a long-haul truck driver. He retired in 1989.
Mr. Pollock was a member of the American Pool Players Association and once won third place in the Washington State City Cup Championship.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Bobbie; three sons, Randy, Rex and Richard Pollock Jr., all of Grand Junction, Colo.; two daughters, Roberta of Grand Junction and Rochelle Pollock of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; his mother, Mildred Phillips of Delta, Colo.; a brother, Ron Pollock of Cambridge, Mass.; a sister, Sharon Alanko of Paonia, Colo.; 32 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Eric Braun Sagle, Idaho
Memorial service for Eric Stephon Braun, 33, will be Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Braun, who was born in Lewiston, died Sunday.
He grew up in Coeur d’Alene and graduated in 1984 from Coeur d’Alene High School, where he had been a member of the drum and bugle corps and had traveled to Europe playing the drums.
Mr. Braun attended the University of Idaho and owned 2nd Chance Auto in Coeur d’Alene. He also painted water-drilling rigs.
He was recently living at Garfield Bay near Sagle on Lake Pend Oreille and worked as a concrete finisher and carpenter in North Idaho and Washington.
Survivors include his parents, Richard Braun of Hayden, Idaho, and Marlene “Elaine” Braun of Newport, Wash.; two brothers, Scott Braun of Hayden and Ethan Braun of Newport; two sisters, LeTana Lickfold of Athol, Idaho, and Rene Eifler of Hayden; and his grandparents, Fannie Boroo of Clarkston, Wash., and Carl Braun of Orofino, Idaho.
