Ccs’ Gillen Nets Five
Jake Gillen scored a season-high five goals Wednesday as the Community Colleges of Spokane routed Walla Walla Community College 7-0 in an NWAACC soccer match at SFCC.
Gillen, a Ferris High School graduate, scored the Sasquatch’s first five goals and fell shy of matching the school record of eight, set by Kevin Mosher in 1996.
Bryan Veal and Ryan Reed also scored and Sau’l Mendoza finished with three assists.
The win improved CCS to 7-0-1 while Walla Walla slipped to 2-4-1.
Golf
Nancy Garrett of Spokane’s Downriver Golf Club shot a final-round 83 for a total of 168 to finish 11th in the PNGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship at Hayden Lake. Judy Dobson of Hayden Lake finished at 171.
Joan Edward-Powell of Portland won with a total of 150.
Women’s soccer
Lauri Faraschuk’s goal on a Sonja Schurtz pass at 87:00 gave the Community Colleges of Spokane a 1-0 win over Walla Walla Community College at SFCC.
The Sasquatch improved to 3-1-1 in NWAACC matches and Walla Walla dropped to 1-2-2.
College volleyball
At Pasco, Angel Fairbanks had 16 kills and Adrianne Edmonds added 14 as the Community Colleges of Spokane defeated Columbia Basin 16-18, 15-10, 15-8, 15-13 in an NWAACC Eastern Division match. CCS improved to 20-5. Both teams are 4-1 in league matches.
