Segmented Dream Heralds Success
Dear Nancy: I’m a housewife with three children. While I love what I’m doing, sometimes I feel stuck because we live in the country and my husband takes our only car to work. I’m trying to get an on-line business up and running but I keep encountering roadblocks, and right now I’m pretty frustrated. This dream was just one in a series of several I had in one night. - Kristen
I’m attending college and have just received my class schedule. I’ve signed up for flying lessons. I’m excited and nervous as I imagine how I’ll feel in the cockpit taking over the controls. The scene changes and I’m watching a rocket shoot into the air. I’m excited and tell someone next to me, “That’s what they’re going to do to me.” The scene changes and I’m at a soccer game. It’s my job to inflate all the soccer balls. I just can’t seem to accomplish this because every time I inflate a ball it immediately goes flat. A teacher comes by and shows me how to do it. He asks me to have dinner with him. We go to a restaurant and I choose a wine but when I realize the bottle is $17, I think it’s too expensive. My teacher says it’s just fine. The waiter brings the wine and presents it formally.
Dear Kristen: Although at first glance your dream seems to have unconnected segments, after talking to you, I can see that it shows your passage through anticipation and frustration to ultimate success.
You’re going to college to learn how to pilot rockets which have more power and speed than any other mode of travel. Rockets also travel to other worlds, indicating an expansion in your inner or outer life. The anticipation you feel hints that you are on the threshold of new horizons. Is this the new business you would like to see take off with you as the pilot?
Trying to inflate the soccer balls is frustrating. When we spoke about your dream I asked what area of your life makes you the most frustrated. You told about the problems you’ve had trying to get your business started. Every time you get the ball rolling, your computer breaks down or another problem presents itself. Is your enthusiasm being deflated by all the obstacles?
In your dream things become easier when your teacher appears. He shows you how to inflate the balls which suggests that you need someone to show you how to start up your business. Finding someone who does this professionally shouldn’t be difficult.
Your teacher also takes you to a nourishing place to eat and drink. Wine is often a symbol of celebration. The wine you choose is expensive but your teacher says it’s fine you’re worth it. This sounds like a success story to me, Kristen!
Dreamer tips
Do you have dreams that shift from one scene to another with seemingly no connection? You’ll find it’s easier to understand them if you try the “When/Then” approach with each separate scenario: When this happens (first scene), then this will happen (second scene).
Work each scene as if it were a complete dream. Then make a sentence out of the work you’ve done, one that will connect the dream together. For example, using the above dream:
“When I visualize my own success, then I need to do the work, listen to others who can guide me, nourish myself and know that I am worthy.”
