Flyers Win Again

Philadelphia’s John Vanbiesbrouck tied his own club record with his third straight shutout Sunday night as the Flyers defeated the visiting Florida Panthers 2-0.

Jody Hull scored an unassisted goal in the first period and Eric Lindros added an empty-netter with 37.1 seconds left in the game.

Vanbiesbrouck stopped 22 shots in recording his 38th career shutout. It was the fourth straight win for the Flyers after going 0-5-1 in their first six games. The Panthers lost their second straight after starting with a 5-1-1 mark.

Elsewhere

Kevin Weekes extended the New York Rangers’ shutout streak to three games, stopping 19 shots to lead the visiting Vancouver Canucks to a 3-0 victory.

Sergei Samsonov and Dave Andreychuk scored early goals and Rob Dallas made 29 saves to lead visiting Boston to a 3-2 victory over Anaheim.
