Obituaries

Edward Labes Lind, Wash.

Visitation for Edward A.E. Labes will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville, Wash. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Lind Cemetery. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Lind.

Mr. Labes, 83, died Monday.

A lifetime resident of Lind, he graduated from Lind High School in 1934.

Mr. Labes served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1945, and owned and operated Lind Electric with his brother, Albert, for more than 40 years.

He was a member of the Good Hope Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He also served on the Lind City Council for 10 years.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Inga; a daughter, Mary Klemmer of Spokane; a son, Carl Davis of Savanna, Ga.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Emma Floether Moses Lake

Graveside service for Emma Floether, 82, will be at 2 p.m. today at Lind (Wash.) Cemetery. Memorial service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Heritage Church in Odessa, Wash. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Floether, who was born in Lind, died Monday.

She married Otto Floether in 1937, and they lived in Odessa. Mrs. Floether moved to Moses Lake five years ago.

She was a homemaker, and a member of the Heritage Church in Odessa.

Her husband died in 1988.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Floether of Odessa and Douglas Floether of Burien, Wash.; a daughter, Janice Wasson of Spokane; and two grandsons.

Robert Weil Post Falls

Viewing for Robert Francis Weil, 78, will be today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls. Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at St. George’s Roman Catholic Church in Post Falls. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls.

Mr. Weil, who was born in Jersey City, N.J., died Tuesday.

He married Dorothy Little in 1946 and worked as a machinist for Colgate-Palmolive Cosmetic Co. in New Jersey until retiring in 1977 and moving to California.

Mr. Weil moved to Hauser Lake, Idaho, four years ago.

He was a member of Santiago De Compostla Roman Catholic Church in El Toro, Calif.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years; a son, Stephen Weil of Post Falls; two daughters, Patricia Weil of Spokane and Mary Murray of New Jersey; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Helen (West) Varcoe Moscow, Idaho

Memorial service for Helen Fern (West) Varcoe, 79, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash. Inurnment will be held at the Freeze Cemetery near Potlatch, Idaho.

Mrs. Varcoe died Oct. 19.

She was born in Palouse and graduated from high school there in 1938.

Mrs. Varcoe married Clem Kestle and they lived in Palouse.

After a divorce, she married Cecil Hughes and they lived in Colfax, Wash. They operated The Colfax Cafe in the Colfax Greyhound Bus Depot.

They later divorced and Mrs. Varcoe married Ernie Herman. They operated Howard’s Cafe in the Pullman Hotel and the restaurant in the Pullman Greyhound Bus Depot. He died in 1968.

She married James Varcoe in 1970. They lived in Pullman, where she operated Jessie’s Cafe.

After her husband’s death in 1973, Mrs. Varcoe worked as a cook at the Station Tavern in Pullman. She retired in 1983.

She also cared for the elderly in their homes in Palouse and Pullman after she retired.

Mrs. Varcoe moved back to Palouse in 1984. In 1997 she moved to the Clark House in Moscow and in 1998 moved to Latah Health Services in Moscow following a stroke.

She was a member of the Moose Lodge in Pullman and the Palouse Senior Citizens Club.

Mrs. Varcoe is survived by a sister, Evelyn Oliver of Potlatch.

Melvin Middleton Colfax, Wash.

Funeral for Melvin F. Middleton, 91, will be at 11 a.m. today at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery.

Mr. Middleton, who was born in Olds, Alberta, died Sunday.

He graduated from Garfield (Wash.) High School in 1926 and worked as a farm laborer and mechanic until 1935.

He married Audrey Richard in 1935, and they lived in Colfax.

Mr. Middleton worked as a clerk for 13 years and as a letter carrier for 25 years for the Postal Service before retiring in 1972.

He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, National Rural Letter Carriers Association and Parvin Grange in Colfax.

His wife died on Oct. 19.

Survivors include three nieces, Tink Thorp of Pasco, Carol Lyne of Puyallup, Wash., and Betty Mann of Washington; and a nephew, Jim Middleton of Deer Park.

Morgan Endsley Jr. Deer Park

Service for Morgan McCoy Endsley Jr., 76, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Evangelical Church in Colbert. Burial will follow at the Williams Valley Cemetery in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Endsley, who was born in Spokane died Saturday.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Endsley was a rancher in the Williams Valley area of Deer Park. He also worked as a building maintenance engineer for Seafirst Bank in downtown Spokane. He retired in 1981.

He was a 43-year resident of Williams Valley and a member of Evangelical Church in Colbert.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Jean Endsley of Deer Park; a son, David Endsley of Deer Park; three daughters, Margaret Johnson of Walla Walla, Norma Johnson of North Bend, Wash., and Nancy Bryson of Vancouver, Wash.; a sister, Esta Davison of Barstow, Md.; and 10 grandchildren.

Raymond Merrifield Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Service for Raymond Willard Merrifield, 71, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Bonners Ferry Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry.

Mr. Merrifield, who was born in Montana, died Tuesday.

He moved to Bonners Ferry in 1943. He later worked as a welder in the shipyards in Portland before serving in the Army with the Occupational Forces in Japan during World War II.

Mr. Merrifield later returned to the Bonners Ferry area and married Irma George in 1949. He worked for the Great Northern/Burlington Northern Railroad as a laborer, machine operator and truck driver for 39 years. He also served as the maintenance caretaker for Paradise Valley Water District for five years and also maintained the Naples Water system.

Mr. Merrifield was a member of the American Legion and the Kootenai Kloggers.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Larry Ray of Priest River, Idaho, Robert Alan of Athol, Idaho, Jimmy Eugene of Oldtown, Idaho, and Judy Ottoson of Spokane; three brothers, Russell, Elden and Ellis Merrifield, all of Bonners Ferry; two sisters, Elsie Voll and Irene Rice, both of Bonners Ferry; 14 grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, the Multiple Myeloma Society or Frances Lederhos Hospice.

Mark Bodeau Denver

Rosary for Mark D. Bodeau, 32, will be at 7 p.m. today at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Wilbur, Wash. Funeral Mass is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will follow at the Wilbur Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Wilbur is in charge of arrangements.

A former Wilbur resident, Mr. Bodeau died Friday.

He was born in Odessa, Wash., and grew up in Wilbur on the family farm. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Gonzaga University in 1990.

Mr. Bodeau worked at Electronic Data Systems in Denver.

Survivors include his wife of six years, Donna; a son, Zachary Bodeau, and a daughter, Abigail Bodeau, both at home; his parents, Don and Faye Bodeau of Wilbur; and three sisters, Rhonda Luiten of Wilbur, Brenda Bodeau of Kent, Wash., and Debra Bodeau of Marysville, Wash.

Cecil Hinkle Spokane

Memorial service for Cecil E. “Cy” Hinkle, 90, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

An 87-year Spokane resident, Mr. Hinkle died Saturday. He was born in Illinois and graduated from North Central High School.

During the 1930s he played semipro baseball in Spokane.

Mr. Hinkle worked as a maintenance engineer for the Paulsen and North Spokane Professional buildings for 50 years.

He was a member of the North Central Alumni, Golden Eagle Lodge 2, International Operating Engineers and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

His wife of 55 years, Christine Hinkle, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Jerry Connors; a daughter, Shirley Nuttelman; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital For Children or the Childrens Miracle Network.

Willem Hagg Spokane

Memorial service for Willem Hagg, 74, will be at 1 p.m. today at Knox Presbyterian Church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 36-year Spokane resident, Mr. Hagg died Sunday.

He was born in Holland and came to the United States in 1958.

Mr. Hagg worked as a machinist for Westinghouse.

He was a member of the Knox Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Joanna; two daughters, Johanna Clouse and Esther Steele, both of Spokane; two brothers, Jan and Arend Hagg, both of The Netherlands; four sisters, Corrie DeVries of Tacoma, Marie Loonstra of The Netherlands, and Nell Barendrecht and Ali Mirandie, both of Australia; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or Knox Presbyterian Church.

Mildred Louden Spokane

Visitation for Mildred M. Louden, 78, will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Louden, who was born in Idaho, died Sunday.

She was a 57-year Spokane resident.

Mrs. Louden worked as a teletype operator at Merrill Lynch for more than 40 years.

Her husband of 34 years, John Louden, died in 1991.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Brown and Christine Louden; three sisters, Mabel, Olive and Ruth; two brothers, Arnold and Anton; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Millie (Haugen) Rundhauge Spokane

Visitation for Millie O. (Haugen) Rundhauge, 86, will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Rundhauge, who was born in Buford, N.D., died Monday.

She worked as a secretary for the Farmers Union Creamery in Williston, N.D.

In 1934, she married Arthur Rundhauge.

During World War II she worked in defense plants in Rhode Island, Philadelphia and New Jersey.

She moved to Spokane 22 years ago and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; two brothers, Orville and Byron; and seven sisters, Gladys, Florence, Rosella, Ester, Delores, Bernice and Alice.

Mable (Patchen) Fredekind Molalla, Ore.

Memorial service for Mable R. (Patchen) Fredekind, 88, will be held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 12 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene. Mrs. Fredekind, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Oct. 12. She graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School and the University of Idaho, and became a teacher.

Mrs. Fredekind married Herman Fredekind in 1940 and taught in Hayden Lake and Coeur d’Alene junior and senior high schools.

Mrs. Fredekind was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Honorary and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She traveled the country in a motorhome with her husband. He died in 1997 and Mrs. Fredekind moved to Molalla.

Survivors include a daughter, Frances Emmons of Molalla; two granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gino Menetto Spokane

Committal service for Gino K. Menetto, 84, will be at 2 p.m. today in the chapel at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 35-year Spokane resident, Mr. Menetto died Sunday. He was born in Anacona, Italy.

He worked as a teacher.

His wife, Leonella Menetto, died in 1996.

Survivors include two daughters, Luana Menetto of Spokane and Francesca Bailey of Chattaroy; two sons, John and Maurizo Menetto, both of Spokane; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Helen Davis Spokane

Service for Helen L. Davis, 77, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Davis, who was born in Ballantine, Mont., died Sunday.

Her family moved to Spokane in 1929 from Orofino, Idaho.

In 1941 she graduated from North Central High School and later graduated from Kinman Business College.

She worked as a records keeper at Galena Air Depot.

In 1947, she married Jack W. Davis.

During World War II, Mrs. Davis worked as a records keeper for the U.S. Treasury Department.

She later worked at Fashion Fabric in the Shadle Park Shopping Center. She also was a homemaker.

Mrs. Davis was a member of Driscoll Boulevard Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and served as the church secretary.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Michael and Mark Davis, both of Spokane, and Patrick Davis of Nine Mile Falls; a daughter, Jackie Leyde of Mead; a brother, Larry Duckett of Dallas; four sisters, Ollie Jump and Ula Flagan, both of Spokane, Dorothy Grubbs of Washington and Margaret Doll of Federal Way, Wash.; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to Driscoll Boulevard Baptist Church.

Robert Sutton Sr. Otis Orchards

Service for Robert D. Sutton Sr., 73, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Pines Cemetery.

A 51-year Otis Orchards resident, Mr. Sutton died Sunday. He was born in Bend, Ore.

He served in the Navy during World War II and later worked in maintenance at Kaiser Trentwood for 36 years.

He was a member of the Steelworkers Union, Early Ford Club and Good Sam Club.

His wife preceded him in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Vetter of Newman Lake; two sons, Robert Sutton of Newman Lake and John Sutton of California; a stepdaughter, Susan Jelsing of Tumwater, Wash.; a stepson, Robert Long of Valleyford; a sister, Adele Seymour of Salem, Ore.; six grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, one great-grandson and one stepgrandchild.

Roy Nance Spokane

No services will be held for Roy Nance, 81, at his request. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Nance, who was born in Oregon, died Sunday.

He worked as a truck driver at Inland Asphalt for 17 years.

Mr. Nance was a 49-year Spokane resident and a member of the Teamsters Union Local 690.

Survivors include his wife, Ida; two sons, Richard and Roy Nance, and a daughter, Laurie Shaw, all of Spokane; a brother, Richard Nance, and a sister, June Laird, both of Vancouver, Wash.; and four grandchildren.

Dorine Maciosek Pinehurst, Idaho

Memorial service for Dorine Mona Maciosek, 69, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Pinehurst Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Maciosek, who was born in Lewistown, Mont., died Friday.

She grew up in the Wolf Lodge area near Coeur d’Alene and spent her entire life in the Northwest.

Mrs. Maciosek was an active member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses since the 1950s.

Survivors include her husband of 24 years, Frank; two children, Carol Puckett and Carl Senter, both of Spokane; three sisters, Lucille McPherson of Juneau, Alaska, Violet O’Bleness of Libby, Mont., and Ruth Inman of Kennewick; four stepchildren, Frank Maciosek Jr. of Pinehurst, Sherry Safeels of Coeur d’Alene, Melvin Quimby of Rose Lake, Idaho, and Karen Bergland of Spokane; four grandchildren, nine stepgrandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
