Garfield Student’S Condition Upgraded
A 7-year-old Spokane boy was upgraded to serious condition Friday at Deaconess Medical Center, a week after he was found unconscious at the Garfield Elementary School playground.
Cody Soter was taken off a respirator and is breathing on his own but remains unresponsive, a hospital nursing supervisor said. The cause of his injury remains unknown.
Soter, a second-grader, was found lying near Garfield’s playground equipment on Oct. 22 during the lunch time recess. Classmates alerted two playground supervisors shortly after the noon hour that the boy appeared to be hurt. The two supervisors performed CPR on Soter, who was unconscious and not breathing, until paramedics arrived. He had no signs of external injuries.
Soter is the son of Glenda Carr and Kim Soter.
