Hook A Kid

Fishing

An Alaskan youngster is the grand prize winner in the 1999 Kids All-American Fishing Derby.

The program, directed by Hooked On Fishing International, attracted nearly 150,000 youngsters, ages 6-16, through events held in 50 states.

More than 800 communities were involved in the program, which offers prizes to kids who land the largest fish during a season.

Tony Mach, 10, of Kake, Alaska, caught a whopping 29-pound, 7-ounce king salmon to win a boat offered for the grand prize in the saltwater division.

Adam Worbington, 12, of Houlka, Mississippi won the national freshwater division with a 22-pound, 7-ounce grass carp caught at a derby organized by the Houston Hawg Callers Bass Club and the U. S. Forest Service.

No fish have to be caught to win the nationally organized Zebco Kids Casting Contest.

Chuck Core, 10, of Mays Landing, New Jersey, took the national title after winning local, state and regional competitions organized by local fishing groups.
