Mary (McNeice) Doran Ephrata, Wash.

Rosary for Mary Ignatia (McNeice) Doran, 82, will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Nicoles Funeral Home in Ephrata. Funeral mass is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Ephrata. Burial will follow at Ephrata Catholic Cemetery.

A 40-year Grant County resident, Mrs. Doran died Thursday.

She was born in Yakima, and in 1939 graduated from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Yakima. For more than 40 years Mrs. Doran worked as a registered nurse specializing in pediatric, cardiac and public health nursing. She worked in various hospitals and clinics in Seattle, Pullman, Soap Lake, Ephrata, Puyallup and Grandview, Wash. She retired in 1978.

Mrs. Doran volunteered at the Ephrata Food Bank, St. Rose of Lima School and at Red Cross blood drives. She received the 1996-97 Volunteer of the Year Award from the United Givers of Ephrata and Soap Lake.

Mrs. Doran was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the Young Ladies Institute with the church. She also was a member of the International Beta Sigma Phi and the Columbia Basin Hospital Auxiliary.

Her husband, Samuel, died in 1993.

Survivors include three sons, Michael Doran of Tacoma, James Doran of Edmonds, Wash., and Dr. John Doran of Seattle; two daughters, Barbara Beaudreau of Puyallup and Kay Williams of Gig Harbor, Wash.; a sister, Kathleen Dufault of Yakima; and 11 grandchildren.

Denis Hoffman Spokane

Private memorial service will be held for Denis Hoffman.

A 26-year Spokane resident, Mr. Hoffman died Friday. He was 49.

He was born in Long Beach, Calif., and graduated from high school there.

In 1972 he moved to Spokane and worked as a welder, most recently for Brooklyn Red Iron Industries.

Survivors include his companion, Karen Hoffman; a son, Eric Hoffman of Spokane; three daughters, Paulette and Larissa Hoffman, both of Spokane, and Holly Hoffman of Post Falls; his father and stepmother, Bruce and Betty Hoffman of Garden Grove, Calif.; his mother, Helen Archer of Whittier, Calif.; a sister, Michelle Case of Garden Grove; and a granddaughter.

Thorvald Larsen Milton, Wash.

Memorial service for Thorvald C. Larson, 95, will be Tuesday in Milton. Bleitz Funeral Home in Seattle is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Larsen who was born in Billings, Mont., died Friday.

He grew up on a homestead near Kettle Falls, Wash., and in 1931, moved to Spokane.

Mr. Larsen worked in sales for many years and retired from Prudential Insurance Co. in 1965. In 1996 he moved to Milton.

Mr. Larsen was a member of the Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Ina; a son, Don Larsen of Federal Way; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Virginia `Ginny’ Monroe Mountain View, Calif.

Memorial service for Virginia “Ginny” (Evans) Monroe, 66, was held on Aug. 2 at the Peninsula Bible Church in Palo Alto, Calif. Graveside service was held Aug. 7 in Elko, Nev.

A former Spokane resident, Mrs. Monroe died July 24. Born in Elko, she graduated from Castilleja High School in Palo Alto and later moved to Payette, Idaho.

Mrs. Monroe moved to Spokane in 1970 and was an art docent during Expo ‘74. She also worked for the Spokane Civic Theater for many years and volunteered with the Spokane Symphony.

In 1982 she bicycled from Spokane to Knoxville, Tenn., as an International Expo Ambassador.

Mrs. Monroe moved to the Bay Area in the mid-1980s and settled in Mountain View eight years ago.

She worked as the director of patient appreciation services at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation for several years and was a member of the Philanthropic Education Organization.

Survivors include a son, Warren Monroe of Bellingham; three daughters, Dawn Monroe of Seattle, Cynthia Cappello of Gaithersburg, Md., and Nancy Sherry of British Columbia; two brothers, Charles Evans of Nevada and Dan Evans of New York; and numerous grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. George’s School.

John Duncan Spokane

Vigil service for John D. Duncan, 71, will be at 4 p.m. Monday at St. Charles Catholic Church. Funeral Mass is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Duncan, who was born in Seattle, died Wednesday.

He graduated in 1946 from O’Dea Catholic High School in Seattle, and moved to Spokane in 1960.

He began working at Anderson Dental Laboratory in 1962 as a dental technican. He retired in 1993.

Mr. Duncan was involved with the Immaculate Heart Retreat House and also was active in Alcoholics Anonymous.

He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, A. Eileen Duncan.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Charles Catholic Church.

Robert Desilet Spokane

Funeral service for Robert J. Desilet, 77, will be at 11 a.m. today at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home. Private burial will follow at Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Desilet, who was born in LaGrande, Ore., died Wednesday.

He married Fredoline Lawson in 1943, and they moved to Spokane in 1945.

Mr. Desilet served with the Air Force for several years and worked as a system commander. He retired in 1967.

He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and the National Association of Federal Retired Employees.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Desilet of Port Orchard, Wash.; a daughter, Karen Medley of Spokane; and three grandchildren.
