Communities Host Fun-Filled Fair Days
The county fair season kicks into high gear this week as the granddaddy of Inland Northwest fairs, the Spokane Interstate Fair, begins a 10-day run Friday at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center.

Several smaller towns in the area also are holding fairs in the next week. Among those are: Colville, Northeast Washington Fair, Sept. 9-12; Dayton, Columbia County Fair, Sept. 10-12; Lewiston, Lewiston Roundup, Sept. 10-12; and Spangle, Spangle Harvest Days, Sept. 11.

Financial markets, government offices and many businesses will be closed for the Labor Day holiday.
Wednesday
The last of a series of symposiums on economic development in Spokane will be held in the Jepson Center at Gonzaga University from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A roundtable discussion will be facilitated by David Van Nuys, chairman of the psychology department at Sonoma State University in California and head of his own consulting firm.
* The Spokane office of the Washington state Department of Revenue presents a free “New Business Outreach” workshop from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and again from 1:30-4:30 p.m. on the eighth floor of the Northtown Office Building, 4407 N. Division. For information, call 482-3805.

* A formal ceremony to create a Rural Enterprise Community in northeast Washington is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Sherwood Community Center in Wellpinit.
