Council Faces Light Agenda

In observance of Labor Day, Spokane City Council members are postponing their usual Monday meetings for a day.

The City Council will meet Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in the council briefing center on the lower level of City Hall. The City Council meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the council briefing center, also on the lower level.

There are no hearings or special consideration items on the agenda.

The council will consider approving two street vacations. The first would vacate Queen Place, from Driscoll Boulevard to Upper Driscoll Boulevard.

The second ordinance vacates an alley between Fourth Avenue and Fifth Avenue, from Stevens Street to Washington Street.

During the afternoon session, the council will consider, among other items, a contract with Rob’s Demolition to demolish the fire-damaged Mars Hotel and Casino and remove fire-related debris. The council will consider placing a lien against the property for the work.

Also, the council is expected to schedule a hearing for Sept. 27 on a decision made in July by the hearing examiner approving a zone change near Deska Drive and Assembly Road.

The appeal was filed by Edward and Luanna Fields. The zone change would allow construction of two four-story office buildings.

A first reading will be held, but no vote taken Tuesday, on a proposed ordinance restoring an expired pulltab-punchboard tax. Restoring the amendment would extend an arrangement that favored non-profits to now include all punchboard and pull-tab operators.
