A New Column On Tuesdays

Today marks the beginning of a new column called “Northwest Passage” by Spokesman-Review staff writer Rob McDonald. It will appear every other Tuesday on the cover of IN Life.

Last December, McDonald, 31, resettled in Spokane, a city he thought he could leave behind. Only after returning did he realize what he’d abandoned all those years ago. His uncle attended Gonzaga University. His great-great grandfather lived here and traded furs. Distant relatives are scattered from Lewiston, to the Flathead, Coeur d’Alene and Colville Tribes’ reservations.

Before joining The Spokesman-Review staff, McDonald worked for The News-Sentinel in Fort Wayne, Ind. He’s worked at Salish Kootenai College in Pablo, Mont., and at The Sun in Bremerton.

Northwest Passage will chronicle his impressions of returning to Spokane.
