Sister Yves Lalonde S.P. Spokane
Funeral mass for Sister Yves Lalonde S.P., 84, will be at 9:30 a.m. today at Mount St. Joseph. Inurnment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Sister Lalonde, who was born in Clarence Creek, Ontario, died Monday.
She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in Yakima.
Sister Lalonde entered the novitiate of the Sisters of Providence in Montreal, Quebec, in 1938. She professed her first vows in 1940 and her final vows in 1943.
She graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Vancouver, Wash., in 1946. She later received a bachelor’s degree in nursing education from Seattle University in 1950.
In 1940 she began working as an administrator at Mount St. Vincent in Seattle and later at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Vancouver.
Sister Lalonde worked as a registered nurse from 1947 to 1950 at Providence hospitals in Everett and Anchorage, Alaska.
She was a superior at Providence Hospital in Oakland, Calif., from 1950 to 1959. She later was a superior and administrator from 1959-1964 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Walla Walla and St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula.
Sister Lalonde worked at Columbus Hospital in Great Falls, Mont., from 1964 to 1976 as a superior and administrator, later as an admissions supervisor and finally as a superior and associate administrator.
In 1976, she became administrator and superior at Mount St. Joseph until 1987.
She retired in 1991 at Mount St. Joseph and continued to serve as a eucharistic minister.
Sister Lalonde served on the board of trustees at Sacred Heart Medical Center and St. Mary’s Medical Center in Walla Walla.
She was a member of the American Nurses Association, California League of Nursing Education and the American College of Hospital Administration.
Survivors include three sisters, Darquise Desjardins of Ottawa, Therese Boyer of Rockland, Ontario, and Solange Lalonde of Clarence Creek; and two brothers, Raymond Lalonde and Rollande Lalonda, both of Rockland.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Providence Retirement Fund.
Dora Lindgren Spangle, Wash.
No services will be held for Dora (Sagmo) Lindgren, 78, at her request. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Lindgren, who was born in Clam Falls, Wis., died Friday. She graduated from Union Free High School in Frederic, Wis.
She married Morris Lindgren in 1952, and they moved to a farm at Rosalia, Wash., where she was a homemaker.
After her husband’s death in 1982, Mrs. Lindgren moved to Spokane for a short time and then to Spangle.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Beedy of Spangle and Gary Beedy of Pullman; seven daughters, Sharon Rohde of Spokane, Wendy Willey of Cheney, Carol Holling of Rosalia, Louis Carter of Spangle, and Jean Clausen of Ritzville, Sandra Kruse of Omak and Jacalyn McClure of Auburn, Wash.; 29 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Margaret Brandt Spokane
Memorial service for Margaret E. “Margee” Brandt, 80, was held Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Private burial followed at Fairmount Memorial Park.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Brandt died Friday.
She graduated from Rogers High School and worked as a nurses aid at Deaconess Hospital for several years.
Mrs. Brandt was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 51 Ladies Auxiliary.
Her husband of 47 years, Wilfred Brandt, died in 1988.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Branda of Spokane and Linda Mola of Millwood; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Gerald Meyer Pullman
Private graveside service for Gerald R. “Jerry” Meyer, 65, will be today at Pullman City Cemetery. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. today at Pullman Presbyterian Church. Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Meyer, who was born in Ritzville, Wash., died Saturday.
He graduated from Pullman High School in 1952 and served in the Army during the Korean War from 1953-1955. He was a military police officer and was honorably discharged.
In 1956 he married Beverly Libey.
He joined the Pullman Police Department in 1964 and worked as a patrolman and a police sergeant until 1975.
He later worked for the safety department and parking services for Washington State University. Mr. Meyer worked for the Pullman School District in 1989 and retired in 1995.
He was a member of Pullman Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Arlin Meyer of Albion, Wash., and Brent Meyer of Moses Lake; a brother, Ronald Meyer of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters, Karen Carlson of Bothell, Wash., and Dorothy Steadman of Seattle; and four grandchildren.

Joan (Brown) Riley Spokane
Rosary for Joan (Brown) Riley, 67, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
A 38-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Riley died Sunday. She was born in Spokane.
She worked as a maternity ward clerk at Sacred Heart Medical Center for 27 years. She also worked at a clinic.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Leonard; three sons, Rick and Charles Riley, both of Spokane, and Rim Riley of Boston; two daughters, Debbie Riley of Spokane and Deena McCluskey of Federal Way, Wash.; her parents, Doll and Evan Brown of Curlew, Wash.; two brothers, Ed Pace of Quincy, Wash., and Steve Brown of Curlew; two sisters, Carlene Rucci of Pickens, S.C., and Nancy Zalud of San Diego; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Minerva Thompson Wallace
Service for Minerva Claire Thompson, 83, will be held Sept. 18 at 11 a.m. at the Nine Mile Cemetery in Wallace. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Thompson, who was born in Columbia Falls, Mont., died Aug. 26.
She lived in Spokane before moving to Kellogg in 1944 and was a longtime Silver Valley business owner.
She and her husband, B.F. “Gus” Thompson, owned the New Morrow’s department stores in Kellogg and Wallace from 1944 until retiring to Wallace in 1976.
She also was a homemaker and was active at the Pinehurst and Wallace golf and country clubs.
Her husband died in 1996.
Survivors include two children, Bruce Thompson of Woodinville, Wash., and Judy Ann Herrity of Newberg, Ore.; a brother, Alvin Reid of Columbia Falls; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dennis Nortell Spokane
Memorial service for Dennis David Nortell will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Westminster Congregational Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Nortell, 47, died Sunday.
In 1970 he graduated from Lewis and Clark High School, where he sang with the Tiger Tones.
Mr. Nortell worked for the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad for several years.
He was a member of the Spokane Men’s Chorus.
Survivors include his wife, Christina; two stepsons, Clint and Tim Mixell; his parents, Ralph and Joann Nortell; a brother, Doug Nortell; two sisters, Jody Locnikar and Jan Vigil; and a stepgrandson.

George `Ray’ Wilks Chattaroy
Visitation for George “Ray” Wilks, 74, will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - North. Funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at Chattaroy Community Church. Burial will follow at Chattaroy Cemetery.
A 46-year Chattaroy resident, Mr. Wilks died Sunday. He was born in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan.
His family moved to Spokane when he was 2, and he graduated from West Valley High School in 1942.
He served with the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
He was a dairy farmer in the Chattaroy area from 1953-1987. He continued raising cattle and growing hay and grain until retiring in 1996.
Mr. Wilks was a member of Chattaroy Community Church, Valley Prairie Grange and Spokane County District 4 Fire Department. He also was a member of the State Dairy Herd Improvement Association.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Hazel; two sons, George Wilks of Chattaroy and the Rev. Floyd Wilks of Moses Lake; a daughter, Janet Tomlinson of Spokane; two sisters, Dorothy Baggarley of Spokane and Helen Battencourt of Twin Falls, Idaho; and 10 grandchildren.

Clara Gotham Colville, Wash.
Funeral for Clara S. Gotham, 91, was held Tuesday at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville. Graveside service was held at Mountain View Park Cemetery.
A lifetime Colville-area resident, Mrs. Gotham died Wednesday.
She worked at the old Mount Carmel Hospital for a few years while training to be a nurse.
She married Harry Gotham in 1927, and they farmed in the south basin area near Colville for 35 years. In 1962 they moved to Colville.
She was a member of the Addy (Wash.) Grange.
Her husband died in 1989.
Survivors include a son, Charles Gotham, and a daughter, Caroline Dotts, both of Colville; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Gertrude Bennett Spokane
Memorial service for Gertrude L. Bennett, 89, will be at 9:30 a.m. today at Rockwood Manor. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - South is in charge of arrangements.
A 25-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Bennett died Saturday. She was born in Walla Walla.
Mrs. Bennett worked at a jewelry store in Walla Walla before moving to Spokane..
She also was a homemaker and a was member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and Manito Methodist Church.
Her husband, Charles Bennett, died in 1984.
Survivors include two sons, John Bennett of Iowa Park, Texas, and Michael Bennett of Oklahoma City.
Helen (Tuttle) Iverson Spokane
No services will be held for Helen V. (Tuttle) Iverson, 95, at her request. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 27-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Iverson, died Friday. She was born in Coeur d’Alene.
She worked at the Naval Supply Depot during World War II, Tru Blu Biscuit Co., Kaiser Aluminum - Trentwoood and Commercial Creamery.
Her first husband, G.R. Udell, died in 1951. Her second husband, Earl Iverson, died in 1983.
Survivors include a son, Jack Iverson; two daughters, Roberta Babbit and Peggy Schadendorf; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Gloria (Carpenter) Welch Kennewick
Private graveside service will be held for Gloria Irene (Carpenter) Welch, 75, in Spokane. Mueller Chapel of the Falls in Kennewick is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Welch, who was born in Priest River, Idaho, died Friday.
At a young age she moved with her family to Spokane, where she worked with the Ice Capades and as a cashier in the Davenport Hotel during World War II. She later worked as a cosmetician at the Town and Country Drug Store.
In 1964 she moved to Kennewick and worked at the Sundown Race Track for 10 years as a volunteer for the Kiwanis.
Mrs. Welch was a volunteer probation officer for the Benton County Juvenile Justice Center and also helped in the founding of the Kennewick Teen Center during the 1970s.
She was a member of the Tri-Cities Country Club.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Bill; three daughters, Shannon LeCompte and Lorrie Ratchford, both of Kennewick, and Bonnie Cosper of Seaside, Ore.; two sisters, Barbara Jones of Spokane and Carol Whipple of Mount Vernon, Wash.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Dominic `Nick’ Gray Spokane

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Gray died Sunday. He was 29.
He graduated from Rogers High School in 1988 and served in the Army from 1989-1991.
He graduated from Spokane Community College in 1996 with a degree in law enforcement.
Mr. Gray worked as a driver for Murphy Bros. in 1996.
He was a member of Rho Beta Psi and Teamster Union Local 690.
Survivors include two sons, Taylor Gray of Spokane and Dakota Gray of Seattle; his father, Dennis Dumaw of Spokane; two sisters, Tommi Melcher of Spokane and Crystal GrayObermarck of Shelton, Wash.; and his grandmother, Carmela Goforth of Spokane.
Thomas Gowdy Spokane
Memorial service for Thomas E. Gowdy, 39, will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Audubon Park. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
A 26-year Spokane resident, Mr. Gowdy died Monday.
He was born in San Diego and later moved to Bayview, Idaho.
Mr. Gowdy graduated from the Divers Institute of Technology and dove in the waters from Alaska to Antarctica.
He worked as a salesman for Olympic Boat Center for several years. He later worked for Evergreen Lawn and Tree Care.
Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Cindy; two sons, Joe and Derek Gowdy, both of Spokane; a daughter, Samantha Hatman of Spokane; his parents, Bob and Elsie Gowdy of Bayview; and a brother, Frank Gowdy, and a sister, Ginny Cornwall, both of Spokane.

Merrill Nystuen Spokane

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Nystuen died Monday. He was 86.
He graduated from West Valley High School and served in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Nysteun worked in the office at Pacific Northwest Bell for 32 years.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Janet.

Rosalie Shea Spokane

A 35-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Shea died Sunday. She was born in Ravalli, Mont.
She worked as a cook at 4Bs Restaurant for several years. She retired from the Golden Hour Restaurant.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Lady Lions Club. She also was a member of the Confederated Salish Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Reservation.
Her husband, Patrick, died in 1977.
Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Akers of Otis Orchards; two sisters, Alma Luedtke of Ronan, Mont., and Laura Matte of Polson, Mont.; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Elvine Batchelor Spokane

A 30-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Batchelor died Monday.
She was born in Odessa, Wash.
She worked at The Spokesman-Review for a few years. She began working as a secretary for the Red Cross in 1975 and retired in 1991.
Survivors include two daughters, Jackie Biel of Spokane and Sandra Smith of Seattle; two brothers, John Heimbigner of Spokane and Vern Heimbigner of Ogden, Utah; a sister, Maryann Williams of Vancouver, Wash.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Thelma Dillin Bonners Ferry, Idaho
Private service for Thelma Alice Dillin, 96, will be held at a later date. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Dillin, who was born in Nebraska, died Sunday.
She attended schools in Nebraska, and in 1922 she married Russel Dillin. She was a farmer.
Mrs. Dillin moved to the Bonners Ferry area in 1935 and bought a farm near Copeland, Idaho.
She lived on the farm until moving to the Community Restorium in Bonners Ferry in 1993. She entered the Boundary Community Hospital extended care facility in 1997.
Mrs. Dillin also was a homemaker.
Her husband preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, Bob and Bradley Dillin, both of Bonners Ferry; a sister, Bessie John; eight grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Marjorie Briody Spokane
No local services will be held for Marjorie I. Briody, 84. Inurnment will be in Hamilton, Mont., at a later date. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 13-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Briody died Sunday. She was born in Alta, Mont.
She served in the Navy as a nurse during World War II.
Mrs. Briody worked as a charge nurse at Marcus Daily Memorial Hospital in Hamilton. She later worked as director of nursing care centers in Kellogg, St. Maries and Orofino, Idaho.
Survivors include a daughter, Jean Beal of Cheney; and five grandchildren.
