The suspect in the stabbing of two women in a Valley Road apartment in May made his first appearance Thursday afternoon in Whitman County Superior Court in Colfax.

Duong Ngoc Tran is suspected of stabbing two women while they slept May 25. The women, both WSU students in biochemistry, suffered multiple stab wounds and were treated for their injuries and released after an overnight hospital stay.

One of the women is married to Tran, who left the country for Vietnam immediately after the stabbing.

Tran was arrested at SeaTac International Airport on Aug. 30 as he tried to re-enter the country.

Superior Court Judge Wallis Friel set bail for Tran, 30, at $250,000 and set his arraignment hearing for Sept. 17.
