Reception planned
The Rev. Ron Greene and sister Cathy Beckley, interim co-directors of the Spokane Council of Ecumenical Ministries, will be honored at a reception at 4:30 p.m. Friday, in O’Connor Hall behind the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, 1115 W. Riverside.
The two were named to the interim position following the retirement of council director Rev. John Olson.
Beckley, a Holy Names sister for 25 years, developed and directed the Women’s Drop-In Center from 1990 to 1997. She is now completing a master of divinity degree at Gonzaga University.
Greene served as pastor of North Hill Christian Church from 1991 to 1998. He is working toward a doctor of ministries degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary.
All area clergy, church members and community leaders are invited to attend the reception. (624-5156)
High Holy Days
The Messianic Jewish Fellowship of Spokane will observe High Holy Days over the next four weekends. The celebration begins with the Rosh Hashanah service at 10:15 this morning. Yom Kippur will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. next Sunday.
Additional services will be at 10:15 a.m. Sept. 25 and Oct. 2.

Men’s picnic
A citywide men’s picnic will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd. Featured speaker will be Ravon Johnson, area manager for Promise Keepers.
The event is free, but donations will be accepted.

Learn of world’s hunger
The Catholic Charities Parish Social Ministry office will host a training workshop on Operation Rice Bowl from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 20, at Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute.
Maggie Conley, director of Catholic Relief Services’ Operation Rice Bowl, will facilitate the workshop.
The annual Rice Bowl program during Lent includes prayer, education, fasting and alms-giving designed to promote greater solidarity with the world’s poor.
The workshop is designed for parish ministers, directors of religious education and others to learn how to utilize Operation Rice Bowl materials. (358-1453)
Baptist revival
Keith Russell, president of the American Baptist Seminary of the West, will present several revival services next weekend at Park Heights Baptist Church, 5101 S. Freya. He will be preaching at 7 p.m. Friday and next Saturday and at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 19.
Also next Saturday, there will be a men’s breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and a women’s luncheon at noon.
Russell has been involved in urban ministry for 30 years, serving four churches in New York and Philadelphia. He has also served as president of New York Theological Seminary. (448-7903)
