Marnela Doyle Coeur d’Alene

Private service for Marnela Doyle, 76, will be held later. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Doyle, who was born in Pittsburgh, died Wednesday.

She graduated from high school in Pittsburgh, and in 1939 she married John “Jack” Doyle.

Mrs. Doyle moved to Southern California in 1949 and lived there until 1990, when she moved to Hayden, Idaho, to be near family.

Her husband died in 1995.

Survivors include two sons, Pat Doyle of Twin Lakes, Idaho, and Kevin Doyle of Coeur d’Alene; two sisters, Patti Bartholomew and Billie Escallier of California; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Willard Rusk Longview, Texas

Memorial service for Willard David “Bill” Rusk will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Millwood Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow.

Mr. Rusk, who was born in Omak, Wash., died Aug. 30. He was 67.

He served with the Air Force during the Korean War, and in 1955 he married Carol Siler.

Mr. Rusk received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Whitworth College.

He worked as a secretary at the YMCA for 11 years before working as the student financial aid director at Whitworth College for 20 years.

In 1972 he ran for state representative.

In 1990 Mr. Rusk moved to Longview, where he worked as the financial aid director for LeTourneau University.

He was a member of the Spokane Club and Millwood Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife; a brother, Harold Rusk of Hemet, Calif.; and a sister, Mary Rusk of Tonasket, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Millwood Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or Whitworth College.

James Allen Spokane

Graveside service for James A. Allen, 74, was held Friday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Allen died Saturday.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

Mr. Allen later worked as a mechanic for Byrne Machinery Co. in Spokane for several years.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

His wife preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Louis Allen of Ukiah, Calif.; and three sisters, Vera, Mae and Grace.

Memorial contributions may be made to Union Gospel Mission.

Mark Wright Elk

Memorial service for Mark Gilbert Wright, 64, will be at 1 p.m. today at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash.

A nine-year Elk resident, Mr. Wright died Tuesday. He was born in Colville, Wash.

He married Barbara Weaver in 1955.

Mr. Wright worked as a heavy equipment operator for Operators Union Local 370 for several years.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Daniel and Dwayne Wright, both of Farmington, Wash.; three daughters, Terri Songer and Jolene Reid, both of Elk, and Merle Magdall of Oakesdale, Wash.; two brothers, Daniel Wright of Elk and Ward Wright of Salem, Mo.; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Susanne (Wells) Bachtold Vancouver, Wash.

Memorial service for Susanne Elizabeth (Wells) Bachtold will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Church of God in Vancouver. Oregon Cremation in Portland is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bachtold, who was born in Glendale, Calif., died Monday. She was 54.

She graduated from Hastings Business College and worked for a few years as a medical secretary in Berkeley, Calif.

She married Gary Bachtold in 1971, and they moved to Spokane. She was active in the Deporres Manor League.

In 1992 they moved to Vancouver, where she was active in the Clark County Newcomer’s Organization. She also was a homemaker and a member of First Church of God.

Survivors include her husband, Gary; two stepsons, Keith Bachtold of Spokane and Kurt Bachtold of Twin Falls, Idaho; her parents, Walter and Peg Seaborn of Bend, Ore.; three brothers, Todd Wells of Berkeley, Calif., Jim Wells of Three Rivers, Calif., and John Seaborn of Longmont, Calif.; a sister, Lexie Dirksen of Angwin, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Paul Crockett Spokane

Funeral for Paul R. Crockett, 57, was held Friday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial followed at Riverside Cemetery.

A 34-year Spokane resident, Mr. Crockett died Saturday. He was born in Marianna, Pa.

He served in the Air Force for eight years.

After serving in the military he worked at Fairchild Air Force Base for many years.

Mr. Crockett later was a truck driver for several years and was a member of Church of God of Prophecy.

His wife, Peggy, died in 1998.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Woods of Spokane; a sister, Betty Godsey of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Patient Care of Spokane.

Helen Cyr Spokane

Memorial service for Helen M. Cyr, 90, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - South.

A 50-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Cyr died Wednesday. She was born in New Canada, Minn.

She was a barber in Medical Lake and Interlake School for many years.

She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and the Sinto Senior Center.

Her husband, Harry Cyr, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Cara Nielsen of Spokane; a sister, Dorothy Magnuson of Minnesota; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Douglas Robinson Spokane

Funeral Mass for Douglas M. Robinson will be at 9 a.m. today at St. Paschal Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Pleasant Prairie Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Robinson died Wednesday. He was 54.

He worked as a pipefitter at Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood for 35 years.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Connie; two sons, Timothy Robinson Mead and Jeffrey Robinson of Tacoma; two brothers, Maury MacGrath of Spokane and Russell Robinson of Stafford, Va.; and a sister, Doris MacGrath of Portland.

Leo Griffin St. Petersburg, Fla.

Inurnment for Leo M. Griffin, 82, was held in St. Petersburg. Mr. Griffin, who was born in Philadelphia, died Aug. 29.

He served with the Army during World War II and with the Air Force during the Korean War.

Mr. Griffin returned to the Philadelphia area and worked for A & P Dairy until retiring and moving to Post Falls in 1975.

He later worked as a local route driver for the Nickels Worth for 17 years. He moved to St. Petersburg in 1993.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth; a son, Leo Griffin of Spokane; two daughters, Frances Hutchison of Ontario and Regina Griffin of Pennsylvania; a brother, Aloysius Griffin of Pennsylvania; and one granddaughter, Kelsey.

Edna Peters Visalia, Calif.

Graveside service for Edna Peters, 81, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fairmount Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Peters, who was born in Odessa, Wash., died Tuesday.

She married Dietrich Peters in 1936, and they moved to Spokane.

Mrs. Peters worked as a billing clerk for General Telephone Co. for five years. In 1975 she moved to Visalia and was a tour director for the Visalia Senior Gad-a-Bouts Traveling Group. She also wrote weekly gardening tips for the Visalia Times Delta for many years.

Mrs. Peters was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Visalia Garden Club, Tulare County Herb Society and the Visalia Gleaners.

Her husband died in 1974.

Survivors include a son, Richard Peters of Ramona, Calif.; a daughter, Madelyn Hoffman of Exeter, Calif.; two sisters, Martha Hart of Spokane and Alice Schmierer of Odessa; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

Peggy (Gerlitz) Lustig Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Peggy Ann (Gerlitz) Lustig, 63, will be today at 11 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden (Idaho) Chapel.

Mrs. Lustig, who was born in Bartlesville, Okla., died Tuesday.

She lived in San Diego before moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1943. While attending Coeur d’Alene High School, she was a majorette and played first-chair violin with the school orchestra and band.

Mrs. Lustig moved to Tulsa, Okla., and during the 1950s she contracted polio. She attended Tulsa University for two years before returning to North Idaho in the 1960s.

She worked at J.C. Penney, Coeur d’Alene Taxi Co. and the local telephone company as well as various government programs, including the Community Action Agency. She then was a family planning counselor at Panhandle Health until the 1980s.

She served as president of the Tenants Association at Sylvan House Assisted Living, where she was a resident for the past year.

Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Prince of Hayden Lake, Idaho; three sons, Timothy and Kevin Gerlitz, both of Coeur d’Alene, and Aaron Gerlitz of Vancouver, Wash.; a sister, Bette Cox of Bartlesville; and two grandchildren, Nicholas and Tamatha.
