Inflation at the wholesale level leaped 0.5 percent in August, reflecting sharply higher energy and food prices.

Correction: An article in last Sunday’s business section incorrectly identified the Fachinal Mine in Chile as the world’s southernmost producing gold property. Argentina’s Cerro Vanguardia Mine is farther south.
