Microsoft Targets Web-Based Business
Microsoft Corp. unveiled plans to release products to help software developers write programs for the Internet, an effort by the company to dominate the computer business on products other than PCs.
The Redmond, Washington-based company said it would begin releasing products allowing programmers to create software that works over the Internet and encouraging them to use Microsoft’s flagship Windows operating system to create those programs.
The strategy marks a shift for Microsoft away from promoting software that worked primarily on personal computers running Windows.
