Okanogan County Could Be Hot

Don’t overlook Okanogan County when you are considering places to hunt quail.

Wildlife biologist Jim Tabor said that this will be “a super year” to hunt quail in the county.

When he and others counted birds along brood routes in the Columbia Basin, they came up with a 64 percent increase over last year’s counts in the number of broods in Okanogan County.

On the other hand, in Adams County there was a 63 percent drop in the number of broods and a 76 percent drop in chick numbers.

Changes in brood and chick numbers in Douglas and Grant counties were minor.

“Expect good hunting in Douglas and Grant counties,” he said.

Check road rules

Hunters heading to national forests should stop at Forest Service offices before the season to get updated copies of travel plan maps.

Use of motor vehicles, including all-terrain vehicles, is prohibited on some roads during hunting seasons.

Violations can result in fines up to $200.
