Panhandle Picks With Greg Lee

I showed some improvement last week - even if I have to go two places right of the decimal point to prove it.

Mathematically, my overall percentage improved by 5/100ths.

Yours truly and guest Wade Quesnell tied. We each picked 8 of 12 games correctly. The guests are 25 of 35 (.714) while I’m limping along at 23 of 35 (.657).

My guest this week is ever-friendly Irene Ihly, Coeur d’Alene High’s activities secretary the past six years.

She admits that she consulted with some of CdA’s football experts.

Lakeland at Post Falls: This is the best non-league rivalry in the Panhandle. The teams battle fiercely on the field, but coaches and players are friends off it. Friday’s game is the rubber game for the 1990s as the teams have won four times each and tied once.

Both teams will run the ball 70 percent or more, but they can pass effectively, too. It could be a game of ball control with the last team possessing the ball winning.

Sandpoint at Cheney: Lake City beat both teams essentially by two-touchdown margins.

Sandpoint is much improved since its season-opening loss to LC (21-6). But Cheney is difficult to beat at home.

And the Blackhawks feel they have a score to settle after losing at Sandpoint last year, when Cheney lost a down on an error by the officiating crew. Cheney 26, Sandpoint 20.

Guest: Cheney is strong on its home field. Cheney 36, Sandpoint 14.

West Valley at Coeur d’Alene: The Viks will post a third straight win and enjoy their homecoming.

The last time a CdA team won three in a row (or two, for that matter) was in 1996 in Bill Anderson’s final season as coach. CdA 34, WV 13.

Guest: The Vikings rule. The Viks keep getting better, and this is homecoming. Big game. CdA 35, WV 14.
