Sandpoint Rolls By Lc
The Sandpoint High volleyball team’s balance and precision at the net was too much for Lake City to overcome Tuesday.
Five Bulldogs had three or more kills as visiting Sandpoint easily dispatched the Timberwolves 15-9, 15-4 in a Border League match.
Senior middle blocker Kendrea Meyer led with nine kills, setter Rochelle Ruen had seven and Emily Smith had five. Megan Lippi added four kills and two aces off jump serves.
“It was nothing spectacular, but we had a chance to work on a number of things,” said Sandpoint coach Jeff Hurst, whose league-leading team improved to 16-1 overall, 4-0 in league.
Sandpoint ran off five straight points - two coming off jump-serve aces by Ruen - to build a 10-3 lead in the first game. An ace by Jaylyn Malsam combined with a hitting error by the Bulldogs allowed LC to close it up at 10-7.
The Bulldogs pulled away on a tip kill by Ruen, a kill off a free ball by Meyer and a game-point kill by Smith.
Sandpoint opened a 13-1 lead in the second game. The run was briefly interrupted by three straight points by LC, one coming off a Malsam ace, before the Bulldogs quickly ended the match.
