Walter `Bud’ Jones Spokane

Service for Walter C. “Bud” Jones, 82, will be today at 2 p.m. in the Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jones, who was born in Jordan, Mont., died Wednesday.

He was a Spokane resident for more than 40 years.

Mr. Jones served in the Army during World War II. He became a bazooka man and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

He married Alice Rehmke in 1946.

Mr. Jones worked in the carpentry trade until 1974 when he began operating a restaurant and motel in Spokane.

He is a member of Carpenters Union Local 98.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Clifford Rehmke and Ronald Jones, both of Spokane; five daughters, Donna Harvey, Marcia Myers and Wendy Quinnan, all of Spokane, Candis Mann of Springdale, Wash., and Christine Hoyt of Moro, Ore.; two sisters, Waneita Rees of Spokane and Hazeletta Gavin of Sacramento, Calif.; 24 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Allen Coeur d’Alene

Service for Kenneth E. Allen, 66, will be held today at 1 p.m. at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Allen, who died Thursday, was born in Ronan, Mont., and settled in Coeur d’Alene more than 30 years ago.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Carolyn; two daughters, Joanne Socci and Dianne DeWitt, both of Spokane; two sons, Ted Allen of Arlington, Wash., and Ken Allen of Morgan Hill, Calif.; two brothers, Ted Allen of Virginia and Bob Allen of Hayden Lake, Idaho; three sisters, Laura Davis of Priest Lake, Idaho, Mary Ruud of Sprague, Wash., and Margaret Rich of North Plains, Ore.; and eight grandchildren.

Agnes Moss Richland

Graveside service for Agnes E. Moss, 90, will be at 2 p.m. today at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane. Einan’s Funeral Home in Richland is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Washington, Mrs. Moss died Thursday.

She lived in Spokane for more than 60 years before moving to Richland 17 years ago.

Mrs. Moss was a homemaker, and a member of the Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Richland.

Her husband, Frank, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Ronald Moss of Richland; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Jay McAuliffe San Diego

Memorial service for Jay A. McAuliffe, 48, will be held at a later date in Spokane. The Neptune Society in El Cajon, Calif., is in charge of arrangements.

A 35-year former Spokane resident, Mr. McAuliffe died March 13. He was born in Anaconda, Mont.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1970.

Mr. McAuliffe worked as a manager for IHOP and as a foreman for a foundry, both in Spokane.

He moved to San Diego in 1992 and worked as a security officer for the San Diego Transit Security.

Survivors include two sons, Kristopher and Jackson McAuliffe; a daughter, Kelsey McAuliffe; his former wife, Deanna McAuliffe; his stepmother, Lorraine McAuliffe; three sisters, Gerda McAuliffe-Hodges of Spokane and Vonnie Moore and Chris Petitti, both of Las Vegas; four brothers, Randy White and Gary McAuliffe, both of Spokane, Dick McAuliffe of Lakewood, Ohio, and Bill McAuliffe of Tennessee.

Esther Newberg Spokane

Memorial service for Esther H. Newberg, 78, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Newberg, who was born in Vegreville, Alberta, died March 24.

She graduated from Westglen High School in Edmonton, Alberta, in 1939 and also graduated from the Roy Alexander Hospital School of Nursing in Edmonton.

In 1946 she married Gordon Newberg and moved to Spokane.

Mrs. Newberg worked as a registered nurse at Deaconess Hospital and for the offices of Drs. Baker and Noland. She also worked as a cook at Garfield Elementary School.

She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church

Survivors include her husband of 53 years; two sons, Dwight Newberg of Spokane and David Newberg of Deer Park; a daughter, Donna Bruce of Rossland, British Columbia; two brothers, Alfred, Wilfred and Edwin Querengesser, all of Edmonton; a sister, Ella Querengesser of Edmonton; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Deane (Ellis) Buche Spokane

Service for Deane (Ellis) Buche, 97, was Friday at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash. Burial followed at Springdale (Wash.) Cemetery.

Born in Springdale, Mrs. Buche died last Monday.

She married Fred Buche Sr. in 1932, and they farmed in the Camas Valley area. In 1959 they retired and moved to Springdale.

Mrs. Buche had lived in the Chewelah Manor for 28 years before moving to the Beverly Rehabilitation Center in Spokane four years ago.

She was a member of the Camas Valley Women’s Club, Loon Lake (Wash.) Moose Lodge and Camas Valley Grange.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include five sons, Paul and Tom Buche, both of Springdale, Fred Buche Jr. of Moses Lake, Gerald Tutcher of Lewiston and Ernest Buche of Poway, Calif.; four daughters, Lena Borchers and Ida Hentges, both of Spokane, Emma Willis of Colbert and Frieda Jone of Springdale; a sister, Maxine Heine of Chewelah; 33 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Hazel Lehn Spokane

Private service for Hazel M. (Monaghan) Lehn, 100, will be held at a later date. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A Spokane resident for more than 90 years, Mrs. Lehn died Thursday. She was born in Gooding, Idaho.

She married Edwin Lehn in 1923, and they owned and operated the Auto Equipment Co. on First Avenue in Spokane for many years.

Her husband died in 1982.

Surviors include four nieces, Doris Weeks, Alvida Merriman and Meike Lehn, all of Spokane, and Lois Hunter of Elk; three nephews, Howard Lehn of Spokane, Richard Lehn of Farmington, Wash., and Robert Lehn of Augusta, Ga.; a great-niece, a great-nephew and two great-great-nieces.

Dorothy McGinty Coeur d’Alene

Private service for Dorothy J. McGinty, 80, will be held at a later date. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McGinty, who was born in Wilcox, Neb., died Tuesday. She married Charles McGinty in 1923, and they moved to California, where she was a homemaker and had worked in an ammunition factory during World War II.

Mrs. McGinty and her husband moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1989. Her husband died in 1995.

Survivors include two sons, John McGinty of Coeur d’Alene and Robert McGinty of Liberty Lake; a daughter, Betty Jane McGinty of California; a sister, Marie Edgar of Yakima; and two grandchildren.

Darrell Straughan Spokane

No service will be held for Darrell A. Straughan, 81. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Straughan, who was born in Pendleton, Ore., died Tuesday.

His family moved to Spokane when he was a child.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

Mr. Straughan owned and operated Dasco in the Spokane Valley and retired in 1983.

Survivors include a son, David Straughan of Spokane; two daughters, April Whitten of Enumclaw, Wash., and Darrielle Straughan of Wasilla, Alaska; a sister, Carley Straughan of Washington, D.C.; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

James Stranger Medical Lake

No service will be held for James J. Stranger, 71, at his request. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

A 38-year Medical Lake resident, Mr. Stranger died last Monday. He was born in Berlin, N.H.

He retired in 1968 after serving in the Air Force for 21 years as an electronic technician and worked for the civil service at Fairchild Air Force Base for 14 years. He also worked as an electrical contractor for five years.

He was a member of the Berlin Airlift and Occupation Forces.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Rose; a son, Dan Stranger; three daughters, Sharon, Becky and Bonnie Stranger; and a brother, Roger Stranger of Saranac, Mich.

Robert Reinbold Davenport, Wash.

Service for Robert H. Reinbold, 83, will be today at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Davenport. Burial will follow at the Egypt (Wash.) Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Reinbold, who was born in Creston, Wash., died Wednesday.

He was a lifetime resident of the Davenport and Creston areas.

Mr. Reinbold served as president of the Big Bend Milling Company and also worked as a wheat farmer.

In 1954 he was named Soil Conservation Farmer of the Year.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Egypt and Zion Lutheran Church in Davenport. He was also a member of the Davenport Gun Club, the National Rifle Association, the North Star Grange and the North Idaho Saddle Mule Club.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; a daughter, Diane Martin of Davenport; a son, Dean Reinbold of Egypt; two sisters, Lorena Riddle of Chelan, Wash., and Mildred Whiteis of Albany, Ore.; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Val McCorkle Spokane

Private service for Val M. McCorkle, 85, was held March 16 at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Born in Huntsville, Mo., Mrs. McCorkle died March 10. She was a 42-year Spokane resident.

She graduated from Moberly (Mo.) High School in 1932 and Moberly Junior College in 1934.

She taught at Fort Henry School in Randolph, Mo., from 1934 to 1936, and served in the Womens Marine Corps as a secretary for a staff sergeant from 1942 to 1944. She was stationed in Chicago.

In 1943 she married Robert McCorkle.

Mrs. McCorkle later taught school in St. Louis, Mo., from 1956 to 1958, and also worked as a secretary in St. Louis, New York and Chicago.

In 1960 she graduated from Eastern Washington University and taught in the Central Valley School District from 1960 to 1976.

She was a member of the American Association of University Women, National Retired Teachers Association, and the Washington and National Education Associations.

Her husband died in 1978.

Survivors include a son, Bob; a daughter, Carol; and a grandson.
