Ymca Offers Baby-Sitting Course

Kids watching kids.

Baby-sitting can be a recipe for disaster or a great way for parents to get away and for teens to earn money.

“There’s a shortage of baby sitters,” said Valley YMCA teen coordinator Pamela Ross. “There are always people that need a baby sitter.”

But baby sitters need to learn basic safety and first-aid to keep the kids they’re watching safe, said Ross.

The YMCA will begin offering a monthly five-hour Super Sitters baby-sitting course.

The first session will be Wednesday and next Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Tidyman’s at Sprague and McDonald.

The course will be open to kids age 12 to 16. It will cost $25, which will include a first-aid manual, snacks and a certificate of completion.

It is not necessary to be a member of the YMCA to attend.

Churches and other groups can contact the YMCA to set up separate courses for their teens, Ross said. The class size is usually limited to 10 students, she said.

For more information, contact the YMCA at 777-9622. Registration forms can be picked up at the YMCA office in Tidyman’s.
