Basketball
Mark Kuipers has resigned as girls basketball coach at West Valley High.
His tentative plans are to help at University High in the school district where he lives with his wife, Brenda, and two children. He will remain a teacher at WV.
“It’s time for me to have a change and pursue other opportunities as far as the Greater Spokane League goes” said Kuipers.
Kuipers coached the WV girls for seven years, winning the State AA championship in 1997. His overall record is 70-85.
Prior to that he was a three-year assistant in the WV boys program.
He said leaving the girls program, with eight returning varsity players from last year’s 10-11 team, would be difficult.
“The people here have been really supportive of me,” he said. “I think I’ve got things established, but it’s time to go further.”
