Dixie Chicks Playing Arena June 9
The hottest act in country music - and one of the top in pop as well - is coming to Spokane. The Dixie Chicks will be here June 9 for a date at the Spokane Arena.
The Chicks have had a phenomenal run on the charts since singer Natalie Maines joined sisters Martie Seidel and Emily Robison in 1995. Their first album together, “Wide Open Spaces,” was released in 1998, yet remains in the top 10 on Billboard’s country chart - this week at No. 7. The disc won a pair of Grammys.
Their second album, “Fly,” which came out last August, also hit the top spot and is there again this week. It, too, won a pair of Grammys.
Both albums also reached the top 10 on the pop chart.
The current Chicks single, “Goodbye Earl,” has sparked some controversy. The lyrics talk about two women who plot to kill the abusive husband of one of them. About a dozen country radio stations have balked at playing the tune.
The Spokane concert is the first U.S. date on their upcoming five-month, 38-state tour, with five stops in Canada first.
Patty Griffin will open the Spokane show.
Tickets go on sale next Saturday at G&B Select-a-Seat outlets, by phone at (800) 325-SEAT or online at www.ticketswest.com. Price had not been set at press time, but will be less than $40.
