Sandpoint Craft Fair Accepting Applications

Applications are still available for the Pend Oreille Art Council’s 28th annual Arts and Crafts Fair, Aug. 12 and 13 at Sandpoint’s City Beach.

One hundred booths are planned, with artists selected by jury. All artwork must be original, handmade and produced by the applicant/artist.

Auditions

Actors wanted, 18 years and over, for independent motion picture to be shot in Spokane, summer 2000. Open call audition, Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at the Civic Theater. Please prepare a one-minute monologue.

Spokane Civic Theatre will hold auditions for its Playwrights Forum Festival 2000 at 7 p.m., April 24 and 25 in the Firth J. Chew Studio Theatre downstairs.

Festival Director Maynard Villers needs a company of actors, with the number and ages to be determined by play selection.

Auditions will consist of cold readings and improvisations. Scripts will not be available before auditions.

Classes

Spokane Art School is offering a two-day workshop on lampworking from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the school, 920 N. Howard.

William Hagy will teach basic methods and techniques of reforming and shaping glass tubes and rods by applying heat from a torch.

The class is open to high school students and adults. Tuition is $40, plus a $25 lab fee and a $5 registration fee for nonmembers.

Rubber Stamping and Embossing, 10 a.m. to noon, April 29; cost: $12.

Beginning Quilting, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 27; cost $36.

May Day Baskets for children ages 3 to 5 and 6 to 11, 10:30 to noon, April 29.

Kudos

Gay Waldman, a Spokane artist, won a $250 award for her photo, “October Sky,” at the 28th Annual Photo Exhibition in Yakima.

She was one of 115 artists selected from 400 entries into the exhibit at Yakima’s Larson Gallery. The show continues through April 29.

Ed Wharton and James Tangen-Foster were selected from taped auditions to perform with the Idaho All-State Orchestra.

The violinists are both juniors at the Renaissance Charter School in Moscow, and members of the UI Symphony.

Generva Sloan, Wade Eldean and Liz White, all of Moscow, Idaho, were winners at the Dogwood Festival Invitational Art Show in Lewis-Clark Valley.

Sloan won best of show in the two-dimensional category; Eldean took best of show for the threedimensional category; and White took second place for her two-dimensional entry.

The festival runs through April at the Center for Arts and History, 415 Main, in Lewiston. Admission is $1.

Poems sought

A $1,000 grand prize is offered in a religious poetry contest, open to everyone, sponsored by the New Jersey Rainbow Poets.

Some 28 prizes, totaling more than $3,000, will be awarded. Poems may be written on any subject, using any style, as long as there is a spiritual inference. A typical poem might involve love or nature, or be inspirational.
