Smith Interest Grows
River running
About 4,300 applications were received for 780 permits to float Montana’s Smith River during the summer season, the Fish, Wildlife and Parks Department reports.
The 59-mile float south of Great Falls has become increasingly popular. Last year, 3,700 people applied for the same number of permits. In 1993, the first year for permits, FWP received 216 applications.
