Second Dorm Fire Shakes N.J. University

An ignited glass of alcohol touched off a fire Sunday at the same Seton Hall University dormitory where three freshmen died in a January fire.

One student suffered minor injuries.

The fire, which officials said started when a glass of alcohol was ignited, occurred on the fourth floor of Boland Hall South about 3:50 a.m. It burned a T-shirt and carpeting before a resident assistant extinguished it, said college spokeswoman Lisa Grider.

Firefighters evacuated the building and reopened it at 4:20 a.m.

The unidentified student suffered burns to the forearm. He was treated and released at the scene. The student who started the fire wasn’t charged, but it was unclear whether he or she would face disciplinary action by the college.

Three students died in the Jan. 19 fire, which occurred on the third floor of six-story Boland Hall.

That fire broke out around 4:30 a.m. on the third floor of the six-story dormitory, which houses about 640 people.
