Lewis and Clark senior Kaylene Fountain struck out 12 and walked one and also scored the winning run as the Tigers defeated visiting Central Valley 5-1 in a Greater Spokane League softball game Monday at Hart Field.
Kayla Adams singled during LC’s five-run sixth inning to drive home Fountain. Fountain had two hits, including a double.
LC is 7-1 and in second place behind University. Central Valley (5-3) managed just three hits, but didn’t have an error.
Also in the league, Shelly Seipp hit a three-run triple in the second and walked in the third to force in a run as Rogers (4-4) won 8-2 at Mead (2-5). Pirates pitcher Jamie Merrill struck out 13 and walked one. Elana Mainer went 2 for 3 for Mead (2-5). … Lindsey Steblaj and Vanessa Shelton each went 3 for 4 and Steblaj had two RBIs and Shelton two stolen bases as University (8-1) defeated visiting East Valley (2-7) 10-2. … April Skubinna threw a onehitter, allowing only a leadoff single in the first, as Gonzaga Prep defeated visiting Ferris 4-1.
In the Border League, Megan Carpenter had six hits in two games and Alex Tice was 4 for 5 with two stolen bases to lead Lake City to a doubleheader sweep at Moscow, 12-0 and 6-5. In the first game, LC’s Brandi Brumley hit a three-run home run in the third with two outs. Lake City scored on two wild pitches in the nightcap and Jihan Anderson struck out 10 for LC to improve to 3-0. Moscow had the bases loaded with two outs in the seventh, but failed to score. … Coeur d’Alene pitcher Blake Hoorelbeke struck out 12, but suffered the defeat as the Vikings lost 3-1 at West Valley. Leigh Williams had two strikeouts on the way to the win that evened her season record at 4-4. West Valley scored two runs in the third on a Kristy Alberts single and on an error. Coeur d’Alene had two wild pitches in the fifth that scored the other West Valley run… . Colville’s game at Clarkston was postponed until Monday.
