A Multicultural Celebration

Multicultural dance and music will be presented Friday night at The Met in a return engagement of last April’s “A Celebration of Colors.”

Dancers will include the Nah’joom Dancers, the Sabah Ensemble (both members of the Northwest Association of Middle Eastern Dancers International), the Siriti Drum and Dance Company (African) and Los Chicos del Tropico (Latin).

Musicians will include the pop-rock group Seeking the Elephant (Nima Michael, Jeff Wolcott and Tom Sauther), T-Boy Finnerty and Bette Munroe on piano, and the Middle Eastern Scabland Band.

Michael, who has produced a multicultural show in Spokane for the past nine years, including last year’s sold-out inaugural “A Celebration of Colors,” said one of the ideas behind the event is to unite diverse cultures in dance.

To that end, he said the highlights of the evening will be songs that bring all the performers to the stage. One such song, a reggae tune titled “Fly Away,” was composed for the event, and Siriti members choreographed a special dance to the music for themselves and dancers from the other groups.

Michael also aims to showcase local performers. “There are a lot of talented people here,” he said.
