Sculptor Donates Work For St. George’S Auction

Laran Ghiglieri, a third-generation master sculptor whose work is featured in the Vatican, the White House and in celebrity art collections throughout the world, has donated his sculpture “Eagle Approach” to St. George’s School to be auctioned Saturday.

Each of this limited edition of 475 sculptures, accompanied by a bona fide appraisal, is valued in today’s market at $8,750. Upon sell-out of the edition, it has an expected value of $15,700. The minimum bid for “Eagle Approach” is $1,900.

The piece is available for viewing by calling Kathie Bonner-Walsh, 466-1636, ext. 319. Proxy bids will be accepted prior to Friday.

Public Art Workshop

The Spokane Arts Commission and Washington State Arts Commission will host a public art workshop at 10:30 a.m. May 6 at the South Hill Branch Library, 3324 S. Perry. The workshop will help artists learn more about the public art process.

Spokane artists Louise Kodis and Ken Spiering will discuss such topics as the state’s Artist Slide Registry, the City of Spokane’s Percent for Art Program, and regional programs in public art.

Kodis has been creating works for public sites for more than 25 years. Spiering is best-known for his “Red Wagon” in Riverfront Park, and for “Cataract” on the STA Plaza escalator.

Classes

Spokane Art School, 920 N. Howard, will conduct a one-day workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday on creating fimo canes for beads and other applications.

Cynthia Dukich will lead the workshop for beginners who would like to work with polymer clay and for the experienced who want to learn new techniques.

Tuition is $20, plus a $10 lab fee. To register, call 328-0900.
