Vfw Post In Cda Plans Exhibit
Thousands of military memorabilia will be on display May 1 as part of a May Day and Loyalty Day observance by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 889.
VFW member Jim Plante will display his collection at the post, 406 N. Fourth St., in Coeur d’Alene. The post will be open from 9 a.m. to noon for youth, and from noon to 5 p.m. for the general public.
Two former Japanese prisoners of war and one former German POW will share their POW camp experiences with students.
Plante will share uniforms, flags and military awards - 12, eight-foot tables in all- with the public. The memorabilia comes from World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
“It’s something I enjoy - a lifelong passion of mine,” said Plante, about the collection.
The display gives “recognition of what vets went through,” Plante said.
