Musical Comedy ‘Joseph’ In Pullman
A national touring version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” arrives for one show only at the Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum in Pullman on Saturday.
This campy musical comedy updates the Biblical story of Joseph’s coat of many colors. It is one of Lloyd Webber’s earliest musicals, originally written as a children’s show.
This touring version is presented by Stageworks Productions. Ken Miller, one of the co-founders of the troupe, will play the role of Joseph. Christie Miller, the other co-founder, directs.
Pullman student talent will also be used in the production. Jefferson Elementary School’s children’s choir will be onstage as the show’s chorus. Dancers from the Mid-Columbia Ballet in the Tri-Cities will also perform.
Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $10 to $25, available at the Beasley Coliseum and through all G&B Select-a-Seat outlets, or by calling 325-SEAT or 1-800-325-SEAT, or online at www.ticketswest.com.
`Uncle Vanya’
One of Chekhov’s most charming and revered plays, “Uncle Vanya,” opens for a four-week run at the Valley Repertory Theatre on Friday.
The play, subtitled “Scenes From Country Life,” is about a professor, his young wife and several other family members at their country estate. Should they sell the estate and live off the income?
In Chekhov’s hands, what seems to be a common situation takes on deeper meaning as the characters and their motivations are developed.
Stuart McKenzie directs, and also plays the role of Astrov. The rest of the cast includes Craig Dingle, Meghan Wittman, Richelle Matheny, Wayne Caudill, Jodine Watson, Shawn McBride and Joan McKenzie.
The play opens Friday and continues through May 20. Showtimes are 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, 2 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $8 general admission, $7 seniors and $6 students. Call 927-6878 for reservations.
The Valley Rep is at the southwest corner of Sprague and Pines in the Valley.
`Murder By Natural Causes’
Does theater have a place at Yogi Bear’s Camp-Resort?
The Rogue Players certainly hope so, as they launch a new production, “Murder By Natural Causes,” at the main camp building at the resort beginning Thursday.
The play by Richard Levinson and William Link, the creators of TV’s “Columbo,” is about a wife and her boyfriend who plan to do away with her husband. Many twists and turns ensue.
Bob Swehla directs.
This is part of the campground’s attempt to provide arts performances for campers as well as all area residents. The Rogue Players are a Spokane-based community theater group.
The show opens tonight and continues Friday, Saturday, Sunday and May 4, 5 and 6. Curtain time is 8 p.m., except the Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.
All tickets are $8. For reservations call 747-9415.
Yogi Bear’s Camp-Resort is located at 7520 S. Thomas Mallen Road, off exit 272 of Interstate 90.
