Area Students Graduate From Wwu

The following Washington residents graduated from Western Washington University at the conclusion of the fall quarter 1999. The graduates are listed by city of residence and type of degree earned.

Spokane Falls Community College engineering students won two first-place trophies at Eastern Washington University’s fourth annual Human-Powered Paper Vehicle Competition in April. Two teams represented SFCC, with the team of Pat Larson, Sue Sun, Brian Perks and Heather White winning awards for best vehicle performance and best design process.

Spokane Falls Community College engineering student Sue Sun has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Inland Empire chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-conditioning Engineers.

Sun is vice president of the college’s Engineering Club and has competed in numerous design competitions in the area. Following graduation, she plans to major in mechanical engineering at Washington State University.

Sharon Kelly, who works for the Spokane Community College divisions of business, hospitality and information technologies and liberal arts and vocational-related education, has been elected to the American Association for Women in Community Colleges’ Washington state board. She will serve as vice president of finance and memberships.

Diana Weisser, Nine Mile Falls, has received a $500 Senster and Florence Anderson Memorial Scholarship to attend Dickinson State University in North Dakota.

Aaron Nay, Post Falls, has been selected to receive a $2,000 Presidential Scholarship at Eastern Washington University for the 2000-2001 school year.

Nay is the son of Keith and Kathleen Nay, Veradale, and will graduate from Post Falls High School in June. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the jazz band and the basketball team. His artwork recently won the “Spring into Recycling” contest.
