J.R. Simplot Seals Acquisitions

It was a busy week for the J.R. Simplot Co. The company’s Post Falls-based turf and seed division completed its acquisition of Turf Partners, a nationwide turf and turf-products distributor.

Simplot also closed the deal on its purchase of AgriBioTech Friday. The company now has the production and marketing rights for a number of ABT’s turfgrass seed varieties, as well as international contracts to produce the seed.

ABT declared bankruptcy earlier this year. Last week, U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Las Vegas accepted the bids for the bulk of the company’s seed and distribution assets. The assets sold brought about $60 million, some of which will be used to cover the company’s debts to farmers as well as other creditors.

Simplot Turf and Horticulture now operates Jacklin Seed, JacklinGolf, BEST and APEX.
